I hope I can remember this in the moment. It's spot on.

This is brilliant ! I hate when someone calls me too sensitive as if I’m weak. It is so destructive and discouraging. As you stated so accurately, sensitive is sensing something or being intuitive.

I could have used this about 30 years ago. I was always told develop thicker skin. So I shut down. Now that I'm an old lady, I don't care what someone thinks. Everybody has opinions but what matters is mine just as others' should matter to them. We need to stop thinking we owe people a version of us they find palatable. No. We need to be respectable, respectful, civil and to know that not everyone will like our flavor of tea and that's fine. It's a indication that's a far as you need to know someone. More importantly not everyone deserves your flavor of tea. Thank you, Jefferson, for those helpful tips!

Oh this is a good one!! My ex used to say this a lot to me… that i’m too sensitive, that I could not take a joke. If i’m going to call him out about words he said about me that were very offensive, he would say “ that was just a joke”. And then he would tell my family that I cannot take a joke to get validation from them. Oh always playing the victim. Thanks jeff, excellent tips to response to those manipulative ppl. Btw, how would you respond to that person that most women are too sensitive & they only care about their feelings. My ex used to say this a lot indirectly to me!

Thanks. I've always responded defensively and always wondered why the other person always had a smug look on their face afterwards. I like that "sensing" is very similar to "sensitive"...makes it easy to remember next time this happens.
@callmeneutrino713614 күн бұрын
Just want to elaborate on this: you can stay emotionally in control when you recognize “you’re too sensitive “ as the mantra of abusers. It’s the easiest and most insidious form of gaslighting and victim blaming. And you can call it out at any time if you need to.

That’s what the narcissist said to! first day I met her and her husband “Your a bit sensitive” after she was coughing on purpose in the corner of the room to irritate me.
@EmmaWondergem1814 күн бұрын
I don't get it. Think I have only half of the story? Why would her coughing have anything to do with you?
@Faithful114 күн бұрын
@ I was anxious to meet her as her and her husband were new to us and our group I shook her hand and showed I was anxious and maybe i showed something else but she did not like it the way I greeted her her body language changed I could see she took offence by it. so just because of how I greeted her I could sense her coughing was put on and just fake (intimidation) And afterwards I went and said hi and was as pleasant as could be this was last year lol so i don’t remember the whole conversation but she said that I am sensitive. it’s a narcissists way of trapping you apparently it’s their idea of saying not my fault you react the way you do your just sensitive even though they are the ones that provoke reactions out of you.

Another “you’re too sensitive” type of comment is “you take things too seriously”. A “joke” at someone else’s expense is no joke. Silence and a stare was my go to. But “I’m sensing ….” is a much more effective response.

Them: "You're so sensitive." Me: " I know. I can sense your BS and you're obviously threatened by it. Is that why you're gaslighting?"
