Really fun to watch. Your metal work is amazing. I need to learn how to weld as my 83 needs a few things.

Hi Chris, thank you for your comment. Welding itself is not a rocket sience, if you have the matching welding machine and your welding spot is well prepared. Kind regards Ralph

I did the same thing. Couldn’t find a rust free one so had to repair. Took days. The outer skin get folding/warping on mine too. Re did it 3 times. Going to put sand bags and do it from the back. Might try ice packs to keep it cool.

That looks like a lot of hard work (both the repair AND the video!). Thanks for sharing it in English. It makes me appreciate my Texas import with very little rust.

Very helpful. I’m also repairing the lower edge of my 72 bay sliding door. I was debating whether to fold the edge of the replacement panel first, as you did. Or welding the top edge first then hammer the fold over. Seeing what you did, I may also try folding the edge first. Thanks!

Did you use pliers or hammer after you slip on the outer skin? I fold after the put skins was on and they didn’t fold very sharp at all.

Great work, Oltimer-Rescue-En when you folded over the edge of the new skin and tapped the panel into place, did you just tack weld the folded edges in the corners or did you weld that seam fully? panel bond adhesive ? seam sealer etc ? just wondering how you finished that folded over edge.
@OldtimerRescueEN Жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for your question. I only tack welded the corners and every 20 cm at the edge. After that I put some thin rust primer into the fold.

What anti rust paint is that? Thanks
@OldtimerRescueEN7 ай бұрын
Hi Omar, the paint is "Brantho Korrux nitrofest". It is a heavy duty, flat, 1-component coating showing excellent corrosion resistance and fast drying properties. Particularly suitable as a primer, also on manually prepared, rusty substrates. A two-coat system is weather-, seawater- and oil resistant. You can buy it in several different colors. Kind regards Ralph
