Great video. Have you ever came across a home where you couldn't find the chime box? I recently moved into my home here in New Jersey, and there are 2 wires (red and white) coming into of the wall where a doorbell should go, but no power in those wires. And I can't find the crime box anywhere!

The home you just moved to was it recently remodeled? A lot of times when people remodel or flip homes they take the chime box out and then just disconnect the wires and shove them in the wall. Good chance that’s what happened. Or it could just be somewhere weird in a home. Sometimes if you can’t find the chime you can go into the attic or if you have an unfinished basement you can go to where the door is and try and find and trace those wires to either the chime box or transformer. Just make sure your safe if you go up in the attic.

Depending on the home. Sometimes it’s almost easier to just run a new wire from scratch. The. You don’t have to worry if the previous tenants did something weird with the door bell wires. If you want to do one from scratch check out some of my other videos! Hopefully this helps!

Hey Tanner! Got a question for you. Trying to reinstall my Vivint DBC at new home. My DBC ring light is not white but turns yellow when pressed for about 5 seconds. Is that an indication of not enough voltage? If yes, would the fix you show here work in that instance?

It depends on the model you have? Is the doorbell cam white or is it a stainless steal color?

What do you do if the transformer is busted?… my Vivint doorbell camera stopped working because the power source is not working.

It depends on your home. Sometimes it’s easier to find the transformer and replace it. Or just bypass the chime and the transformer and run your doorbell cam to a plug in transformer like in the video. It really just depends on the home. Sometimes one way is a lot easier than the other.

Right it definitely would have. I just wanted to show how someone could restore power if they didn’t want to mess with high voltage or if the existing transformer wasn’t right behind the chime box like how it was at that home. Depending on the builder the existing transformer can be hard to find. So sometimes it’s nice to just restore power like how I did in the video without having to run a whole new wire.

Can you find the chime box? You have to have a power transformer or it will blow your doorbell. Sometimes it’s almost easier to just run a new wire from scratch. What material do you have on the outside of your home? Siding? Brick?

Lol definitely doable. Alot of times it’s not conveniently right behind the chime like that. So I was just trying to give an example if it wasn’t there, how you could restore power.
