Tool list below….
Want a doorbell camera but don’t have an existing wire? Don’t want to mess with batteries dying on you? Here is a simple way to run a wire so you can use your doorbell camera. Siding makes it super easy. If you notice there was an outlet on the outside of the home, I always like to plug them in on the inside so then it’s not exposed to the weather or having people unplug it. It also makes a clean professional look. Feel free to comment any questions, I’d love to help!
Don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself? Send me an email with any additional questions or if your interested in a quote!

I know what you mean. I'm on the west coast where houses made with siding are pretty much extinct and obsolete. My frustration is trying to fish the stupid piece of shit wire. I've been trying for 3 days and I'm irritated and frustrated beyond any word known to man kind . I'm getting to the point where I think I'm going crazy and the walls that I'm trying to navigate the wire through are laughing at me, well I'm starting to get to the point where I am going to pick up a sledge hammer and smash through the stucco to connect the ring doorbell to the transformer

Awesome! Glad this helped! Just make sure that the transformer you buy is weather rated or that your outlet outside is covered. Personally I would still drill and plug it inside. But as long as your outlet is covered from the exposed weather you should be fine. Also one thing to consider is if you do plug it in outside. Make sure the camera can see if anyone walks up to the outlet. That way if anyone try’s to unplug it you’ll have a recorded clip of them doing it! Thanks again for your comment and for watching! Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions

Hi! Yes sorry I forgot to add that part! And I’m not sure how to add photos now that this has been posted. But basically if you leave a little wire out the corner of the whole on the inside and just let the transformer hang once you screw back in the outlet plate you can then plug it in with seeing very little wire on the inside of your home. Does that help?

This is a great idea and I found a plug to do this, but 2 questions, shouldn't you put some kind of caulk to stop bugs and the very minor draft? Second what do you do on the inside what do you do on the inside with the wire, do you just wire it up and the put the faceplate on?

This is so helpful! Really glad I found your video, I just bought the Unifi G4 door and realized that we had a contractor remove our doorbell and chime because it was originally stuck in the corner and no one ever used it. Plus, it was broken and just looked like trash. I was looking all over at how to install a new transformer and I came across this! One question, what size/length drill bit are you using there? I'm pretty sure I don't have anything that long (sadly, that's what she said) so I'll need to go out and get something
@tannerthetechnician5252
@tannerthetechnician5252 2 жыл бұрын
Hahah! That’s the best comment I’ve had lol. I like to use 1/4 size drill bit and one that’s at least 12 inches long. I like the 1/4 in drill bit because it makes the hole big enough to easily get your wire through without making a big hole that you’ll have to silicone or clean up later. Hopefully that helps! Yeah it’s a lot more common than you think. A lot of people don’t thing about the doorbell wires while remodeling and or just don’t know what the chime box is so they just cut it and cover it. If your home has siding this is the best way to run a wire without exposing wire on the inside or outside of the home. And it’s honestly pretty simple. (Beats having to cut drywall and have to patch and paint if you ask me!) Let me know how it goes or if you have any questions.

Hi, yes I didn’t show that very well in this video. You just plug the transformer into the outlet. You don’t actually wire anything to the outlet. Doorbells are low voltage so that’s why you have to use the transformer. Does that answer your question?

Oh yes that can make it tricky. Sometimes what I’ll do is just run it down on the outside tucked under the siding edge piece and then at the bottom drill straight through into the house right above the baseboard on the inside and then tack the wire along the top of the baseboard and then over to an outlet. You would see a little wire on the inside which might not be ideal but if you tack it right or get hide a wire casing it can look good. I dunno. Great question. So most household outlets put off 120v and most doorbell cameras require 16-20volts. So if you didn’t use the thing that plugs into the outlet it would fry your doorbell camera. The plug (transformer) that I show in the video brings the voltage down from 120 to 16 volts so that way it doesn’t fry the doorbell camera. Does that make sense? Hopefully that helps

Thank you Soo much ! My husband passed away and I had most of our stuff in my carport of a house we rented. Someone stole everything. I'm hoping to get this set up so I can tell the people to bring my kids stuff back or I'm calling the police. It probably won't work out but im praying it does. My kids are so upset. They loose their dad now everything they got for Christmas and birthdays. I was fortunate that a friend give me the doorbell camera. Hope I can install it right. Wish me luck !!!!

Yes it looks like the ring doorbell requires 16-24 volts. Which is super common. So just make sure that the transformer you get is 16-24 volt output snd you’ll be good to go!

@tannerthetechnician5252

Unfortunately no. The voltage coming off the outlet is very different that what you get coming off a transformer. You need to use the transformer or else you will blow your doorbell camera every time.

Attaching the doorbell to the mount is a little difficult but once it locks into place it seems extremely sturdy. kzbin.infoUgkxxHZwMa8CsRjYhf9s4W8w0Dwm47uytWOp I replaced my regular doorbell with this and hard wired it in, using my existing wires and mechanical chime. It works perfect so far and integrates perfectly with my blink camera system. It also works seamlessly with Alexa

dude why didnt you use the existing out door plug thats like right there, right next to the door. YES, just a "few moments after" i thought about that, that it is exactly like putting a door knob backwards by having the lock on the exterior side of the house lol or like installing a door with the hinges on the outer side of the house lol. not safe at all cuz any one can come and pull the 3 hinges out and walk right in... ORRRR anyone can just come and that someone happens to be that 1 out of 10 awaken mind that knows such things like "common sense" and realize that the camera bell installer is a dum-dum ring bell installer for FKN-UP on security lol.. But, me as a magiver dude and understand electricity well enough, have an idea, well more of a question, "could the door bell be connected to the 1st closes outer receptacle by hard wiring it and pig tailing power to door bell? i dont see why not and also people wont have easy access to it, i mean how are they even going to know the ring bell power source is that plug if wires be hidden
@tannerthetechnician5252
@tannerthetechnician5252 2 жыл бұрын
Lol loved your comment. Yes plug it inside, not only for security purposes but also to keep it safe from the rain/weather. It also makes it look more professional than having it plugged in outside where anyone can see it. Unfortunately you need to use the plug in transformer so then you get the right voltage. If you try and hardwire it directly in you’ll blow your doorbell.

This looks like a very unsafe way to install as the wire is accessible from the outside of the house still. Meh.
