HOW TO.....Restrict Access within Google Drive

A "How To" video about restricting access to Google folders and files within Google Drive. (Originally created for teachers who wanted to restrict access to Google Hangouts Meet recordings that students accidentally recorded with out teacher permission.)

This was very helpful! In my case, I have people with access to my drive and uploading files and taking up my storage space. I can´t find how to deny them access to my drive alltogether :( any ideas on how I could achieve that?

I don't believe this is possible. You can restrict access on your docs/slides/etc, but it doesn't work the other way around, at least not that I have found. Since drive was created to share content, the only thing you can do is trash whatever you don't want. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Is there any way to see the restricted file on VLE website of my university. I want to get my online question file before the given time. Is there any solution?

Sorry about the late response. The only way to remove the restriction is if the "owner" gives you permission to see the file. I hope you got to see it.

Do I need to pay to access these features? I have so many documents I share to people. Can I do this on my laptop without getting the workspace google account?

Sorry for the late response. No matter what version you have, paid or not, you can restrict access to anyone who currently has viewing or editing rights. In terms of Google Workspace, if you are using any Google product, it is considered a workspace. So, if you have a Gmail account, you also have a workspace account. I hope this helps.

Does this work to limit a subfolder of a folder you shared? So I have a shared folder in Drive but then I have a folder inside of that I want to restrict? Can I do that?

Sure, you can do that. Just keep in mind that the default restrictions apply to your main folder, but you can apply restrictions to any subfolder you add. It's important to note that this won't affect the restrictions in the main folder, only in your subfolder.

Thank you for this. Is there a way to just stop all access from others completely, and share if they ask permission for in the future? I have 3 files in drive of my own and hundreds and hundreds of homework in my drive taking up 6gb.! I need to delete all the files, and people and also leases delete the files. Thanks so much! You are a great teacher.
