Do you leave the string stuck/pushed into the sizing hold tabs, when feeding the two string ends out thru the final holes?

No..or they would break inside and not make it through the hole..you should try and get them out-of-the-notch beforehand

Any idea where to find replacement springs? I went to every hardware store, I've searched in stores, online asked neighbors &multiple stores&their associates&only receive a perplexed look&then told "yeah,I don't think we carry those here, sorry " Yes, I have searched online. However, let me be purely honest, I am not what ud call "computer savvy"&so not doubt that my internet search was not as effective as it prob should have been 🤷‍♀️. (please don't hate, just ppreciate the honesty. ) Any ideas where to find a replacement spring?!

McMaster-Carr would be my first choice. You'll have to pull some dimensions.

Unscrew the middle cap on bottom of whacker..and the spool will fall off/out of spindel
