@@kzdom115 I just bought mine recently, and when it came to put new line, I was trying to find it in the manual and if course didn't find it. I'm newbie at gas trimmers but with your help im really liking it.

Thank you so much. Excellent video. You explained it so well. I just got a Troy Bilt gas string trimmer and I could not understand how to change the string. The instructions in the manual said one thing but when I actually tried to open the bump head it would not open so I was confused. I thought I was doing something wrong. But now you explained that it is hard to open (that is so true) and that a wrench needs to be used. Thank you so much because I was afraid to damage the bump head or something like that.

I have not. I honestly don't know if it is possible with this trimmer. It isn't very "feature packed".

I was really hard on it during my first impressions video, but I really have grown to like it for small stuff. Almost all of the issues I have had with it were due to my own stupidity.

Now, how about coming & weed-eating my yard😁 No, but really, thank you so much for explaining this. My grandson somehow let the line get so short that it isn’t coming out of either hole😩There is plenty of string left, but I guess I will have to take it apart & thread the string back through the holes.🤦♀️

These are pretty cheap units. Mine is for sure normal threaded, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the heads are some kind of bargain bin special type of thing.

How long should the strings be?
@kzdom11511 ай бұрын
A few inches, if you leave them too long, I believe the guard has a metal piece on it that will cut them.

I have the same model weed eater, but my bump cap has reverse threads...so keep an eye out for that possibility. Also, my bump cap and string spool is red in color.
@kzdom1154 ай бұрын
For the price of them, I wouldn't be surprised if they just used whatever they had when throwing them together. I ended up replacing the head with a gator head with nylon blades.

How much line do you use? 4 feet?

I just used enough till it was full. After a few years of use it wore out and wouldn't hold string anymore. I swapped the head out for a universal gator head this season.

It can be super finicky about the type of string used. My head failed after 3 years and would not hold string anymore, it would all fly out when reved up. I ended up installing a gator head I got from Atwood's for around $10. It is a super easy swap and well worth it in my opinion.

@ChristophC9992 жыл бұрын
@@gregmichael9925 Mine won't come off. I've had it for five or six years and it still runs fine. I just haven't used it in around two years because I can't remove the spool.... still starts and runs awesome!
@kzdom11511 ай бұрын
I hope you were able to get it off. I saw a comment that said theirs was reverse threaded. I wouldn't be surprised if they used multiple styles of heads on these cheap trimmers.
