It's possible to get some shine on 4C hair, with some oils like argan oil, but it will still be subtle. It's simply the texture of our hair that doesn't reflect light, unrelated to moisture like you said. Obviously, product build up make the hair look very ashy, so a good shampoo is important to avoid dull looking hair. Another way to have hair looking shinier is to play with color: darker colors often look shinier.

It's just as important to pay attention to what we are doing for our bodies internally. Drinking enough water and having a healthy diet can help with our hair.

I learned some oils like jojoba oil combined with olive oil works-one acts on the shaft of the cuticle while the other is a sealant.

Loved the video. My hair is also 4c and I wish it was more like 4a but hey it is what it is. And the stage that I’m at right now is trying what will work to help seal in moisture because as you know 4c hair tends to be dryer than some of the other textures

I discovered deep conditioning and protein treatments, then using Hask Keratin shampoo helped me. I tried coconut oil mixed with my conditioners, is helping. I use a leave in conditioner by As I am, a hair treatment by Shea Moisture, then I use my curl cream and my pink gel...cant think of the name

@@biblepool6313 I was just checking my KZbin recommendations. I figured out why I've never seen her in a woolly hat or scarf. She lives in or near Memphis Tennesee. The climate there is defined as humid subtropical. If you live in a desert climate or in a temperate cold climate with central heating that will dry out your hair. I live in London England UK 🇬🇧. The water is very hard. The city is polluted and I swim in a chlorinated pool. The climate here is described as a temperate oceanic climate. The wind here is unreal and will whip you hair around in the air and get tangled in the winter. The heating will also dry out you hair. Even plants and a humidifier do not help. So I moisturise my hair twice morning and evening and keep it flat twisted wrapped in a silk or satin scarf all winter and part of autumn and spring. In the summer, my hair is less dry and when I go on a tropical or subtropical holiday my hair is in love. Being black, think our hair is designed for the African continent, so thrives anywhere with a tropical or subtropical climate, no pollution and no hard water. I have white friends in the tropics and they all cut their hair because it hangs down and sticks to the back of their neck in the heat and their scalp gets sunburnt. Ugh. Afro hair sticks up, keeps our head cool and is dense enough to protect our scalp from sunburn. I still wear a hat though in the sun.

@TZ2nd

Chalsey Wilder my hair just recently went through a severe state of dehydration. I backtracked and realized I’d started applying more gel. I realized I was applying too much gel, now I don’t use any at all, it gives me too much of a cast (but I do wash my hair every 2 days so I don’t need much of a cast). Another thing I’ve been doing is taking Eden naturals aloe Vera gel, oil (my fav is olive oil), and a small amount of water, mixing that in a spray bottle and spritzing a medium amount of that on my hair in the morning. Then I put on a shower cap (with an intentional hole in it) hop in there shower, and bam, refreshed hydrated curls.

@@chalseywilder937 Dang I have the same problem with the things that are holy grail for others. My hair hates coconut oil and aloe vera juice/gel. I'm also finding that putting raw oils on my hair creates the straw feeling. My hair does better with homemade creams that are mango butter based (not shea butter) and I mix in some distilled water and a little grapeseed oil. I still have to moisturize often, but maybe not every single day. I have found that I have to do so much trial and error to figure out what my hair likes and hates.
