I cant understand what type of spin it is. How do I learn
@hsghtravels10024 жыл бұрын
All excellent pointers. An easier way to remember for a right handed server, aim return where the bat head starts. For pendulum serve bat direction R-L, aim to server R. The opposite for reverse pendulum L-R, aim server L. If you miss detecting direction of side spin, aim for center line.
@eloimumford52474 жыл бұрын
Excellent pointer , the way i remember : aim the ball in direction the threat comes From = receiver's point of view : server's bat goes from Right to Left = aim Right
@markpurcell80754 жыл бұрын
That's the key, it works for any type of spin.

I didn't quite get this. I am a right handed intermediate player. I find it hard to return when opponent (mostly right handed) does a side spin pendulum serve that usually spins to my left. Can you break it down? Where and how do i aim to return. Also is it better to receive it in backhand or forehand
@paulgoogol2652 Жыл бұрын
@@hkrishnan91I get confused with directions but compare to this: backspin is applied by hitting the ball from top to bottom. On return you try to aim higher. If you hit flat, rhe ball will move downwards towards the net because thats the backspin thing. Just remember that. You aim to the opposite direction of the opponents bat when it hit the ball.

Aim to where the bat came from at the point of contact. That works for sidespin and topspin/backspin. Eg, a chop serve the bat comes from above, so aim up. Topspin the bat comes from below, aim down.

@@hkrishnan91 You tend to have more control with the backhand, some even move across the table to return with the backhand. With a right hander doing a pendulum serve (and assuming no wrist flicking or other arm movement at the point of contact), the bat would tend to come from your left, and from slightly up. So it would either be mild chop or float with sidespin, so you should aim slightly up and to your left. Guys, the video was great! One thing I'd like to suggest is to edit/position the camera in order to make it easier for watchers to see the whole sequence. In certain times, it wasn't easy to see the serve and be sure of the spin before the return

Side spin is one of the Trickiest to handle. Well, only issue is watching & understanding which side of Racket hit the ball while Server is Serving is probably the toughest thing to do atleast till Intermediate level. But I liked the last Bonus Tip where he said Bring both Head & the other hand close to the Ball - To Control the Spin of the Ball. That makes lot of sense.

That's great, thanks. I had a quick lesson from an advanced player the other day and he taught me this same stuff. he said to aim for the opposite side of the table to the direction of the opponent's bat swing. last night I had the chance to put this into practice against a player who was getting cheap points on his spin serves last time I played him. This time, it was a totally different story. he still won but it was much closer and he only won maybe four points on un-returned serves in the four sets we played.

This is why the tomahawk serve is the deadliest side spin serve. Partially hiding the racket under the head makes it difficult for the opponent figure out where exactly the ball was hit. With just a little wrist movement, tomahawks can be side backspin, side top spin, or pure side spin.

@@Lukas-dr6zx Notice the direction that the bat is travelling at the point of contact with the ball and aim somewhere on along that line from where the bat came from. Can we also say that you can basically return every spin by mirroring the movement and the angle of your opponent's racket (as if you are watching yourself in the mirror), meaning if he/she goes from left to right from where you stand/your viewpoint (sidespin), you should move your racket from left to right, and if his racket goes underneath the ball, and from behind where he stands towards the net (backspin), you can you do the same - move your racket from where you stand towards the net, underneath the ball.
