Is it a good idea to counteract the tomahawk serve with sidespin? I tend to do so a lot. Love your videos btw!
@pingskills5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes you can do this. You can also just use the angle of the bat to counter the spin. As always use whatever works!

Great video. Quick question: is it just a matter of watching which direction the opponent’s paddle hits the ball at, to determine at what angle _your_ paddle should be to return it? If so, is there a hard and fast rule for which way your paddle should be angled according to the opponent’s (when it strikes the ball)? Such as “point your paddle in the same direction that your opponent’s was”.
@pingskills3 жыл бұрын
Excellent question. It's not only the angle but also the speed of the contact and how much they brush the ball. Take a look at these tutorials for more help - www.pingskills.com/categories/serving-and-receiving Good luck!

Sir ... What about the fast tomohawk serve swirling from one end to another diagonally, how do we return that ?
@pingskills6 жыл бұрын
That can be tricky to start with. Once you learn the topspin strokes that is the best way to return such a serve.
@candylaria54146 жыл бұрын
Those spins are crazy! 👍👌😊 How can I achieve that skill? 🤔🙄
@pingskills6 жыл бұрын
Ah, that's where you need a decent bat that has some grippy rubber, and then you need a fast brushing contact. Good luck!

Some VERY good rubbers Otherwise you have to master the natural spin(the wristle) Either few hundred dollars for some legendary rubbers or few years training like me to master the wristle spin

Again a really really awesome video. Absolute dedication from you guys. I just wanted to ask when the ball is quite high over the net and if I choose to give a forehand flick like Jeff was doing, do I need to keep the racquet inclined or do I keep it straight?
@pingskills6 жыл бұрын
The bat angle certainly can change depending on the height of the ball and the type of spin.

How to return if tomahawk serve is really fast? I always lose points to receive fast and long tomahawk serve? Can you show some techniques to return fast and long tomahawk serve? Thanks
@pingskills5 жыл бұрын
If the serve comes really fast then don't try to hit it too hard yourself. See if you can just place the ball back on the table. For all our service and return videos take a look on our website: www.pingskills.com/categories/serving-and-receiving Good luck!

I'll never forget, I was one of the best tennis players in the united states growing up so naturally I was good at ping pong right...so I'm at a club med resort in the ping pong tourney and naturally I get to the finals and win.. I end up playing the GE (clubd med employee) running the tournament and he has a wicked spin serve. Up until then I had been playing ping pong for years and years and I never encountered this before. He beat me real bad because I couldn't return his spin serve. Apparently the only way to return this type of spin is how they say in this video. I tried hitting topsin like in tennis, slice, just holding out my paddle, of course none of that worked. NEver realized why pro ping pong players play like that, but now I know.

Thanks for sharing your story. Table Tennis really is a game about spin!

I have a question that is a serve legal if the ball hits the edge of the table like a lucky point?
@pingskills6 жыл бұрын
If the ball hits the edge of the table then it is counted as "in" and unless your opponent can somehow get the ball back then you win the point.

As I am right handed player how should I return the ball with side spin
@pingskills6 жыл бұрын
It depends on the type of sidespin. The ball can be spinning to the left or to the right so you need to know which way it is spinning, then you can angle your bat to counter this sidespin. It means you have to aim away from where you want to hit the ball and let the spin take it in the correct direction. The videos in this category should all help you with an understanding of spin: www.pingskills.com/categories/serving-and-receiving Good luck with your table tennis!

@pingskills6 жыл бұрын
Great, now try and get sidespin and work on getting the ball to spin to the side. Keep trying to vary the amount of spin, and then eventually you do need to get to a table and try and practice it there. You can even try this on a dinner table.
