You can also place fittings into near boiling water for 20 seconds and they about fall out. Pull from water, shake out water, grab with rag & pliers and they fall out.

Great video that saved me a lot of work! I had a leak develop in a length of old buried line between 2 T-connectors. The split was too close to one of the Ts for me to splice a short piece in. So, I cut the old tubing close to each T, used your trick to get the old tubing out, and replaced the old with new tubing without having to dig up the other two lines attached to each T. Many thanks for your video.

Thanks for the tutorial. Often it isn't even a matter of saving the fitting, but rather saving the rest of the installation to which the fitting is attached, when only one tube needs to be replaced.

Thanks much! I have a 1/2" INSIDE diameter black poly tubing irrigation system while Home Depot and Lowes tend to stock just 1/2" OUTSIDE diameter fittings. After a couple of failed attempts to replace a leaking tubing right before an end of tubing fitting, googled and came across your vid. Your method worked, with the old end of tubing fitting stopping the leak after the leaking split in the tubing section was cut out.

It took me awhile to figure this out, I searched for a video but couldn't find one. I knew there was a simple solution, just had to keep trying. I use these fittings a lot so this should keep me from running to the store to buy new fittings every time I move one of my drip lines.

Just performed surgery on one of the newer slip couplings to see how this is designed. There is white slip sleeve(reason you cannot grab tubing and "fold" it to remove) along with a rubber collar at both openings. This newer coupling does a great job of staying sealed due to those pieces. I was able to finally remove the tubing! You cut it about 1" same as Tim states. Spray the almighty WD-40 around the tube into the fitting. Use needle nose & grip across the tubing against the fitting - prying the tube out! Worked for me. I have not tried reusing the fitting but it appears to be intact.

So clever, thank you. Do you have a video on removing the barbed connections (for sprinklers, drippers, flexi tube etc).? I wondered about soap water and easing them out side to side but wonder if the hole will get bigger? Also where the flexi tube goes into the sprinkler. I have a line of 'in line' drillers' with barbed end & connected by flexitube that I want to reuse. Thank you.

Good tip. Yup, thats how I save mine. Rainbird now has a newer style that Im having trouble reusing! It now has a inner white fitting that fits inside the tubing. These cost about a dime more than the "simple". Thought they looked better made but now learning you cannot reuse them. Back to the older style unless someone has figured out how to reuse???

Where do you get the white insert? Or is it reusable?
@ralphmagno16445 жыл бұрын
does not work with rainbird fittings due to white insert in center of fittings. It may work with orbit fittings.
@MichaelMickelsen Жыл бұрын
Don't by Rainbird fitting. They are ripping customers off by not providing a simple release tool. I have been working on a simple release tool made from an aluminum soda can which is thin enough to slide around tube to release the tangs that hold the tube in place. No cutting required.
@martylynchian8628 Жыл бұрын
What about Goof plugs? Can they be removed if you want water again from that spot?
@commontater86309 ай бұрын
Maybe, but winding up with a useable (non-leaking) hole is not guaranteed. I usually just punch a new hole.
@congo20094 жыл бұрын
Even easier grab the hose and wiggle up and down while pulling out and they pop right out no need to cut line

This does NOT work with Rain Bird Fittings because they have an white inner fitting that breaks when you squeeze it - Rain Bird wants your $$$ ! Any ideas???

Wish I had read this before trying this on my rainbird fittings and failing. First the leak - then this trick not working. Ughhh...

I have found the same thing. I just tried this on one of my Rainbird fittings. I need to cut a connector so I can run under a new piece of concrete sidewalk. Doesn't work at all.
