I live in WA, and the sun annihilated our plastic line to the point of it snapping when putting a wet blanket on it to dry. My partner does FIFO, and putting a new line up seemed like some sort of aerospace engineering until I watched your video. Thanks so much! Your video really helped me!🎉

Thanks - great video, I still can't believe I only needed to watch this just once to complete the job. My only added advice would be to squirt a little WD40 in the top of the tensioners before attempting to loosen them as I cracked one on my first attempt - after 24 years in the sun and weather they've gone a little brittle and rusty. Thanks again!

I found using long nosed pliers a lot easier than using two screwdrivers, only have to use one hand, plus if you are using plastic covered wire (160lb) it is useful for removing any broken pieces that are stuck in the tighteners

Many thanks. I got in a proper tangle about 2 thirds of the way through running the line. Suggestions - The tensioners only turn clockwise (when re-aligning after removing line) I used the tool supplied with my angle grinder and it was perfect for turning the tensioners (like it was made for it ! Thanks again it would have been far harder without your great video.

This time, I was done in about 30 minutes tops, and not a single problem! I tip my hat to you good sirs, many thanks. EDIT: and as Scott Fanning mentioned, needle nose pliers was my goto tool for turning the tighteners. Just seemed easier than 2 screwdrivers :-)

Your button (normally orange) that collapses your hoist is probably broken. You can buy new ones on ebay or you can put a tek screw through the lower star into the column to stop it collapsing but thas is a permanent solution until you remove the tek screw again.

I'm only 152cm / 5 foot and my clothes hoist has been put in as low as it will go so I can reach it easily for pegging out the clothes. I'm hoping that I don't decapitate myself if I stand on stool and duck when rotating it. I have a bad knee so I don't want to be stepping up and down all the time. I might have to rope (yes pun intended) daughter into helping me.

If its the same model as the one in the video there is an orange or sometimes blue button that holds the arms up. Its quite common for these to break. We have these but we only supply them with our rewire service. Theres a guy in QLD, not sure where he is who you can buy new ones from.

Great video and discovered tensioners only wanted to turn clockwise after completed job.I was able to thread cord through getting partially open also removing one and fitting in a vice. It now is zip tied down to arm untill I can get a new one What do you do with the 400mm length at the beginning?. At least I wont get strangled now on low hanging cord.
@eyeinthesky9929
@eyeinthesky9929 Жыл бұрын
The special tool only costs a few bucks, its just a plastic key with a few bumps on one side and a central strip on the other side to turn. Then you cannot accidentally stab yourself with a screwdriver; it does take force to turn and tension. I also needed multi-grip pliers to re-install the last two end pole line locks, but it was apiece of cake with them.

@australianqualityclothesli8250

That hanging bit has the hook on the end as shown in the video. It wraps around the clothesline when folded up so the arms dont try and open up when the clothesline is being carried. Hope that helps.

Hi Ross if yours doesnt have tensioners, and some dont, just tighten it the way im tightening the one in the video where i pull the line down and work my way from the inner beginning to the outer end. Just pull a little tighter on yours because it doesnt have tensioners. We can rewire it for you if your in Sydney, South Coast, Central Coast or Blue Mountains.

@bramall7433

Hey Ross - ideally you need to use 8 ratchet tie down straps (2 on each arm) to tension each arm in 2 directions perpendicular to the resultant sheer force tensile momentum coefficient. tension depends on what material the cord is made from. Nylon has the least frictional coefficient 0.23 and stainless steel wire the most at 2.89. Its not rocket science but for a full appreciation of the forces at work in your aussie clothesline see www.CSIRO/physics_equations@Hillshoist.com

thanks for this - fantastic video :) One question - I could be wrong but if you feed the line in clockwise and then anti clockwise direction (for each new 'lane' of clips as you work your way around) the tensioner discs will not operate as expected since they only tighten in ONE direction - clockwise. This means that in the sections where you ran the line anti clockwise you'll actually be loosening the line (or at the very least not achieve anything at all) if you attempt to turn the tensioner disc in the default clockwise direction - is this correct?
@australianqualityclothesli8250
@australianqualityclothesli8250 6 ай бұрын
It makes no difference at all what direction you go because all the tensioners do is shorten the line length, and it will shorten no matter the direction. It cannot possibly loosen. Ive done thousands of these and what i have shown you is the factory correct way to do this, in fact its the same way its done in the factory.

This is awesome. Only issue I’m having is with the tention. I got the old line out but I’m having no luck moving the discs around. I’ve tried pliers and the screwdriver trick that you do. Is it possible they need some WD 40 Or some oil?
@elaineplew1236
@elaineplew1236 Жыл бұрын
They only turn to tighten don't try to go backwards to loosen but wd40 did help make that process easier for me. Pull out bits from the middle of tensioners with a flathead screwdriver, that was easy mine was falling apart doing that! Pointy nosed pliers were handy during that also.
@matton36
@matton36 Жыл бұрын
@@elaineplew1236 Only turn clockwise. They can be very difficult to turn sometimes. WD40 can help. The proper tool can be bought from Hills if you need it but try some more muscle first.
