Hi Heath, as usual you are a wealth of fishing information. I'm sure a lot of fishermen have leaned a lot from your videos. Take care and hope the family is well. Tell Avi it's time for him to lane a big one. Thanks, Mickey

Hi Mickey, thanks for watching and being here time and time again. Honestly, I'm just a regular guy, with 2 jobs, trying to do the youtube thing to hopefully one day not have to work that second job. But, that's still years away. And with the kids starting to drive and 2 of them nearing the end of highschool and looking at college... Well, you get my point. But, I wouldn't have it any other way. I love sharing something that I have a passion for, it gives me a sense of self-worth. And in the fishing world, it can be hard to come across real, undistorted, simplistic explanations of what you should consider doing to bring home some meat. Now, of course I don't know everything, and good grief I don't... But, I do know fishing should be fun and exciting for everyone who's into it. The family is good, hoping the same for you and yours. I know you're preparing for the move... Good luck. See you Sunday, Take care :)

Hi Heath, We're all well and packing for the move inland. You always have a lesson in the video that educates a fisherman and isn't just watching someone catch a fish and not really understand how they did it. Knowledge catches fish. Take care, Mickey

Great tutorial Heath......I just can't seem to get the haywire twist to look decent. I use 7strand wire and tie with a figure 8 knot.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and sharing. There's absolutely nothing wrong that multi-strand knottable wire. If it gets the job done, don't change it. So, if I had a penny for every haywire twist i've tied... well, I'd have too many pennies to count. Getting them to look good, however, isn't nearly as important as functionality. Regardless, if you're not happy with the outcome, don't risk it. Always a pleasure to hear from you, and I truly appreciate your support for the channel. Thanks again for everything. Tight lines & take care ;)

Nice tutorial! I have one question. I assume that if your mainline is monofilament then you don't need the 100 ft of additional monofilament in the yo-yo. Correct? Then you can attached your mainline to your planer, right? Thanks for making us better fishers!
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. When trolling a planer, you want a long leader between your planer and your bait/lure... The planer is a good size piece of hardware that can spook fish. So, you want to put some distance between the 2 items. Now they do have what is called a quick-release planer that you can hook straight on to your mainline... when reeling in, you un-clip it and wind up to your lure. This means your mainline is mono... Personally, I prefer a mainline of braid when trolling a planer. Braid doesn't stretch and lose strength like mono does over time due to the constant compromising of the shock absorbency factor of mono. Hope this helps. Tight lines & take care ;)

Hey Captain great video! Thinking of running this exact rig off the back of my sailboat on a Senator 12/0. What are your thoughts on the Spro pre rigged wire leader in place of the hand wrapped? I don't trust my wire knot tying skills. Cheers from Oahu 🍻
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. The answer is simple, and definitely nothing to be ashamed of... If you are unsure of yourself, it is entirely the smartest move to go with pre-rigged. A great thing about the pre-rigged outfit, is you can examine it, to see what they may be doing differently, and try to apply it and improve on your own skill set. Hope this helps. Good luck in your fishing journeys. Tight lines & take care ;)

Without the planer do you still troll the drone spoon at 6 to 8 knots
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing Жыл бұрын
Yes it works up top also.
@rudy26843 жыл бұрын
An other great video. My question is, does the planer work properly if im driving at 3.5 knots? And is this spoon effective on albacore tuna and false albacore?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and asking some great questions. Most definitely, spoons work great on tuna of all kinds. Especially the false albacore. Also, yes the planer will work if trolled at lower speeds, problem is, you are giving the fish a chance to examine your bait at lower speeds, thus, increasing the probability of lowering your hook-up ratio. Remember, trolling is about enticing the impulse to strike at bait from a fish that is actively feeding, your are producing an opportunity from an easy target. I promise, you are not going to out run any fish trolling at 6 - 8 knots. Great to hear from you again and have your support for the channel. Hope This helps. Tight lines & take care ;)

Question why don’t you use crimp instead of a haywire twisted
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. With the size wire I'm utilizing, a #4 - 40 lb pound test, there is no crimp small enough to properly tighten around the wire & hold it in place. I use the thin wire for a more stealthy approach. A thicker wire would accept a crimp, however, I would be compromising stealth. That's my thought process. Hope this helps. Thanks again. Tight lines & take care ;)

What pound mono leader
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks again for asking another good question. The 100 foot leader on my yoyo is 60 pound test. I use crimps on the ends instead of knots... They seem to hold up better under the strain of planer trolling. Hope this helps. Thanks again. Tight lines & take care ;)

What rod and reel do you use this rig on
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. The rod is a 7 foot custom rod from the company Chaos. The reel is a Penn international 30 that is spooled with 30lb Momoi monofilament and a top shot of 3000 yds of 80lb J-Braid. Some classic gear that I've had for well over 20 years. Here's the links to the gear I use if you're interested: Reel - Penn International 30 bit.ly/2QR6sJY rod - Choas 7' trolling outfit custom www.chaosfishing.com/Trolling-c276.htm Hope this helps. Once your hands toughen up to the point of being able to catch stone crabs bare handed you'll be able to tie the haywire twist in 150# single strand without aid of tools all day long for charters! I love the way Heath remains true to the old school and refuses to incorporate the youtube knowledge! He's keeping use of the spider hitch alive for the light lines it's great for too! If it ain't broke don't fix it! Good show old boy!

Can't wait to try the drone spoon over the 6-8 mile reef out in Stuart. Wind has been blowing and being a weekend warrior doesn't help!
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and leaving some great feedback. Wind has been blowing down here too. I'm about 45 minutes south of you. Last weekend was one of the few ones we've had over the past several months. The Jet stream has an area of high pressure meeting and area of low pressure out in the Atlantic that is just constantly funneling this wind directly at us. Weekend warrior or not... An angler is an angler, a true hunter of the ocean. Thanks again for you support of the channel, I truly appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

Thank for the information captain.. question. Why do you have 2 gps?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and noticing my console electronics. So... Long story made short... Got the boat in 2005.. Original electronics were an independent GPS and an independent Fish Finder... In 2018, the fish finder burnt out... replaced it with the smaller one you see on the right side of the console. In 2019 my GPS developed a short and would stop working whenever I hit a bump in the water... So, it got replaced by the split screen one centered in the console. Also, the fish finders are set to 2 different frequencies, so I can see different things down in the water column on each of them. In the future, I plan on making an episode to explain how to do this and what you are looking for with the different frequencies. Hope this explains it a little bit. Always a pleasure to hear from you and I truly appreciate your support for the channel. Tight lines & take care ;)
