Hopefully there was a deal done on the rigging. Mike came across very well and no doubt will get work on the strength of this video. Would I hire him to do rigging for a boat of mine? Absolutely as an ex professional mariner it's a pleasure to sea modest professionals like Mike impart a small part of their specialist knowledge on us. Perhaps Aubrey and Mike could team up and launch a rigging channel on KZbin?

Old cables can be used as chaser wires when removing/installing electrical wiring that is installed in a complex manner. You can attach the cable to an electrical wire at one end and pull it out the other. Then tape the new wire to the cable and pull it back. Boom! Installed.

Hi Aubrey I am really enjoying your vids, and I am sure that many others appreciate your changing emphasis towards becoming a serious yachtswoman. Your beauty is just the same, and one could almost say that wearing workclothes can be sexier! But that is not why I am writing... Presently, I am stuck in a hospital bed, after having nine vertabrae fused. Hopefully I will be able to resume the vertical position (without impersonating the hunch back of Notre dame) by about mid September.. they reckon I should achieve an almost complete recovery, except for the 24in scar down my spine (titanium bolts, rods and goodness knows what else will hide under the surface). Each time they move me from my home in Forster, I get a 300km ride in an air ambulance. (Thank goodness for Australia's health system) My real p oint though, Aubrey, is that following progress on your boat refit (as well as over 50 other channels) is entertaining me so much that my temporary medical issues seem to disappear into the background. I have a Hobie Tandem Island (fully set up for offshore use) sitting in the garage at home, ready to get this 71 year old back into the water (can't wait) So keep those vids coming, as I for one love 'em to bits! Jensen ran a great production facility. These boats are known to be very well built. Not to mention the fact that the Cal 40 Has won more Transpac races than any other production boat model. The design Lapworth came up with and it's subsequent Transpac wins proved fin keeled boats are capable blue water sailors. People said the keel would fall off. They said it would sink. They were wrong. This boat will also SMOKE a Catalina 30, Especially downwind.

The boat is great. She has done a wonderful job. But no matter what real boat lovers wont criticize brands. No different than car people. We love em all! I for one am looking to buy a 49 foot Beneteau Oceanic. But my wife wants size for guests and family. I do not feel gullible.

Another great video ... educational to boot. It's a little crazy that you have to spend so much time justifying everything you're doing with the boat. Can you imagine if your average car driver had to justify how well they maintained their car, their choice of safety equipment or even how much they improve their driving skills on a regular basis the way you have? There are a heck of a lot more bad drivers out there than bad sailors. Keep on keeping on!

I doubted the wisdom of fixing this boat, but when I heard its A "free" boat, I figured it was at least a learning experience. Old Cals are not the worst boat out there, especially as a costal cruiser. It is not in the same category as a Rawson 30 or a Bristol or an Albin Vega, all of which are smaller sailboats that have proven offshore capacity. The reality is, its a lot more than the boat, its the person sailing it. Are they blue water capable? I think our hostess with the mostess has a ling ways to go to get to that point. For most people, they could be given a Hans Christian 38 and their lives would still be at risk out of sight of land.
