Thanks Randy. Good information and consistent with my experience. I have caught several 6lb+ bass during the pre-spawn period using a zoom lizard Carolina-rigged (with a small weight as you suggested).

I think an underrated way to fish lizards is as a subtle, fast moving surface lure. It is much quieter than a buzz bait or whopper plopper style bait and it can be rigged weed less and skipped better than almost any other surface lure. In the small creeks and river I fish I have pulled actual lizards out of a bass’s throat after catching them on one fish fast on the surface.

Hey Randy years ago I was throwing lizards and I could not believe how hard they were hitting it. They were crushing this thing almost like they were mad at it and Randy mean bitting so hard that you could feel through your rod there lips clamping and crushing down so hard. I went to Florida as a kid and didn’t know how to fish bass there. A bait store sold me mister twister Tx rig hooks, sinkers, culprit worms, and mister twister lizards. I brought em home to Michigan and was POUNDING springtime bass up in the shallows of my home stream when I saw a monster northern. I tossed it in front of him and he chomped it off and I got back my line cut as neatly as if ida used a razor. It all struck me cuz we don’t have lizards or newts or salamanders or whatever this far north yet the fish love em. Convinced me that matching the hatch has its place, but so does tossing stuff that just looks vaguely creaturely if that is even a word? Great videos here Randy thanks a lot!

I use a lizard on a wobble head works great you can fish any type of cover even brush piles I use it on rocky points most often banging rocks

Like using the 6in lizard on a 1/16th Oz slipsinker and slowly drag it across the bottom in tannic colored water ,and a 4in watermelon gold flake works well in clear water on a dropshot rig.i think it mimic the small pickerel or sunnies here in Central NJ

@@clay7514 clay to be honnest pink and white are absolute fatal for me , i've caught them on pink bubble gum worm and 1 large mouth bass on zoom tequila sunrise , and i have personally caught them on the zoom "rootbeer brown color" speed craw , i have personally had bream come up interested in a strike king 1/8th oz 100% white solid and 100% white and pink strike king spinner bait in september , absolute fatal , and the zoom watermelon lizard is also absolute fatal so i got couple different lizard colors but absolute never leave home without white , i diehard believe white shows up the absolute best in brown coffe cream muddy conditions , i even got a bream to top water bite the zoom bubble gum worm absolute fatal that i had to get the bubble gum pink zoom horny toad absolute great learning skipping bait

I don't think lizards do much diving for fish eggs. But salamanders look a lot like those lures and i wouldn't be surprised if they do eat bass eggs. They do live in the water at least, unlike lizards. I caught bass on real live lizards in Florida, and they always hit the lizard when it's moving on the surface or just stopped. I remember one bass hitting the lizard the second it git the water before it could move. But on the surface. I don't remember seeing a real lizard work once it sunk. Oh and those lizards were invasive brown anoles that run iff the native green ones so i don't feel too bad for using them as bait.

Only one way. Lizards are not made for different hooks.
