Well a little theory on how to calculate and work out the knot distance and hanging ratios on rigging gill or tangle nets for sea fishing. Its pretty simple, but the hanging ratios are the difference between catching or not catching fish. This has been used for hundreds of years since net fishing first started, when it was more of a survival skill to feed the family, rather than catching fish to sell. Unfortunately this knowledge is dying out, and the skill of rigging nets with it. I understand that a lot of recreational fishermen think nets catch and kill everything in their path, but if you have watched my netting videos, you will see how the mesh sizes are very selective in the species they catch.

Yes, there is a fair amount of work that has to be done, especially in repairing damage to the nets

Interesting video, there's more to it than just chucking the nets over the side. Hope you get a few more Herring than you did last time.

Them kit trammels changed all the hassle, anyone can rig them now. Everyone does the seizings different. I would probably get loads of comments saying Im doing it wrong! hahaha

Super well explained, what depth are your herring nets and what is your net shoot made from
@beanysfishing2555
@beanysfishing2555 6 ай бұрын
Cheers. The depth of the lint is about 15ft, I have strops on the sunk nets between 3ft and 9ft. . The net chutes are made from fibreglass.

@@lobsterman2632 yes, I cut a hole with a jigsaw, cleaned the edges with a grinder, and glassed in a plywood well. It didnt take long, and was easy to do.

I dont know what you call it in the UK but i Denmark we also adjust rigging by having different depths on the shot, meaning you adjust how much slack there is between two knots (is the sewing twine tight to the float line or not). This can further slack the mesh making fish tangle better but can also be adjusted to fishing in strong or no tide areas. Further nets a rigged 10-15 % less in length on the float line compared to lead line.

Yes, we do the same on bottom nets. On drifting nets, we also rig the lead line a lot longer than the float line. I have rigged the lead line twice the length of the float line, so full stretched length, so the bottom of the net bag a lot. It improves catch rates greatly.

What do you target with your mid water nets?

I use them in the summer when there isnt so much fish about here, but we get sea trout, mullet and they also pick up a few macks. And a few bits and pieces like big horse macks etc. If I fish in shallow water, the do pick up a few sole and dabs.

also you mean divide to find the half not multiply , just a little mistake youve made
@beanysfishing2555
@beanysfishing2555 7 ай бұрын
Hello, multiply was fine in this example, because I flipped the number under 1. So a half is 0.5. If I divided it, I would have used 2.
