This video goes over how to ripple, from making rippled hearts to wing bases!
Understanding how to maneuver the pitcher to create ripples is paramount for latte art progression, whether you want to pour wing tulips, rosettas, or animal drawings.
I apologize in advance for the gratuitous use of the word "ripple" in this caption and in the video.

2:19- How to Grip the Pitcher
3:51- Water Ripples

Hi Lance. I just write this to say that these videos that have been uploaded by you are really helpful for people on many different levels. As a barista who has worked in the industry for 3 years and is able to do latte art quite consistently, I still manage to learn stuff from you here and there. The way you explain things is so easy to follow and understand, from how you compare to the movement of pulling up the milk pitcher at the end like a helicopter or a plane, to the wrapping of the wing. Just ask in advance, as I am having a plan to open my own cafe soon, and in my country, espresso-based coffee and latte art are very new and full of flaws. I will use those instructions of yours to probably teach someone else.

I LOVE these videos! The drawings and quadrants have helped me so much with understanding the techniques, and you dubbing over the video talking about what you're doing is awesome. I'm still very new, so I'm still practicing to be consistent with everything, but you've helped me get to a point where I feel like I actually CAN get better and not just completely in the dark about what's going wrong. And over the past week I've had a few (albeit simple) designs that I felt could have come from a coffee shop, which is huge progress! The fact that you've got a bonehead like me feeling good about what I'm pouring speaks volumes of your teaching prowess :)

This is a really useful series. Don’t worry about the videos being on the long side -- if you treat this like sitting in a workshop/class, 20 minutes would be nothing. The great thing about what you are showing I think is that there is both some theory and concrete, approachable steps, so you have something useful to practice and build up to more complex shapes (that is it’s not just about how to create a specific shape). I made a lot more progress with these than with way to much time (and milk) doing trial and error.

It's nice to be here from the start seeing the channel and the community growing. Perhaps, if you're looking for ideas of possible future content, I've been thinking about one - a series of short episodes (maybe 10 minutes long) in which every episode would show a single design and detailed instructions how to create and master it (with nice drawn illustrations). To me you are a latte art god and your art is so much better than most others I see here.

You’re doing a great job as slow flow supply is out of the handle less pitchers…but that’s a good thing and I hope you land some other sponsors because you’ve earned them.

Lance, I just started learning and you have helped a lot! I love your videos and can’t thank you enough. When I try to do the tulip my first kidney to start the da base of stacks sinks and that’s because I am trying to go a bit closer to Center of the cup, because when I move to closer to the wall off the cup the kidney won’t move 😭😭😭. What’s yours advice? Please.

The one I use isn't made anymore. I recommend around a 6oz cup from loveramics or created co or acme or origami or notneutral or ancap

awesome video lance. thank you again! question regarding practice: i'd like to waste as little as possible (especially precious coffee beans!). any recommendations on ways to practice? i've used water like you recommended and while it's helped me feel the rate of flow much better, it's still difficult to picture how the foam is going to interact.

Hey Lance! Thanks to your content my latte art has been steadily improving and less haphazard. There's a ton of comments and not sure if you've already answered, but what size/brand cups are you using? I suspect I should downsize my cups as I'm using 12oz latte art cups (used to really like big drinks and wider the better right?). My pitcher in relation is 16oz. Would downsizing my cup to 8 to 10oz make latte art easier to pour and learn?
@LanceHedrick
@LanceHedrick 3 жыл бұрын
I much prefer 5-7oz cups to any other sizes, for sure. Makes art easier, though it will fill up quickly! Haha

Very informative, liked the deconstruction method of teaching, showing the parts then the whole and the what not to do. Although missed the sarcasm and dry humor this time. Bring on more of that, I bet there’s research that says you will remember something better with humor and sarcasm 😏

I try not to force anything. If humor or sarcasm comes up, I let it come out. If it doesn't, I don't force it. I try to let my videos be organic with how the lesson is leading me. Thanks for watching!

Hey Lance, great video! Any tips for pouring in smaller cups? I am big on cortado and like to do latte art, but I find myself quickly limited with the cup size with regards to space, but also cup dept (lots of swirling). Thanks!

Latte Art is doable in a 4oz, but it takes time and practice. I'd also advise doing a ristretto. As for my preferred size, I enjoy lost 6oz cups! Acme is a solid one, and loveramics

Man. So this one kinda helped me when you dissected it. But I'll be honest. I think I started with ripples 😂😅 so I think this just affirmed what I was doing. The water thing does help for sure. I just started doing that recently. I think I use my elbow or a combination of my wrist and elbow. I'll say it has been erratic for sure. But it's gotten better. I think my biggest problem is knowing when to stop rippling. Great video man! This is definitely something people will love! Keep em coming! I can't wait for some drip videos now! #notificationsOn #concretize

What size frothing pitcher do you recommend for doing individual cappuccinos? 8 or 10 oz? Straight sides? My 18 oz seems way too big for steaming 4 0z of milk on my gaggia classic.

Regarding the spout shape on the pitcher, how does it affect the pour if the spout-tip is more straight (i.e. vertical) compared to a more rounded of tip where, if the pitcher is upright the tip is leaning towards more of a semi horizontal alignment ?
