Determining what ancient Israelite hairstyles looked like.
Ladies, if you're expecting Harrison Ford to run across your screen wearing nothing but a fedora and carrying a bullwhip, you're out of luck. Instead, this show finds previously "serious" documentarian Simcha Jacobovici channeling his inner Michael Moore, as he travels the Middle East seeking to uncover the truth behind biblical events. Jacobovici interviews Holy Land scholars and compares notes with leading archaeological experts, offering startling new theories behind the stories while having fun in the process.

I used to love his documentaries too! Then I found out how wrong Simcha Jacobovici was when archaeologists found many areas Simcha said likely never existed. “Archaeologists now know many places existed that Simcha Jacobovici said,”they likely never existed!”

So fascinating! That’s the first practical explanation I’ve seen of the Ancient Egyptian custom of placing wax cones on the head, I.e., to kill the lice! Makes a lot of sense to me 👍 As regards covering one’s head with a scarf: it seems that is more a Hellenic custom than a Biblical one, as both the Greeks and Romans always insisted that a respectable lady be heavily veiled when she left the home, as is shown in numerous depictions. The Egyptians and Mesopotamians, by contrast, don’t seem to have gone in for veils, more for elaborate wigs, braids and ornamentation. The practice of offering a lock of one’s hair on the altar is mentioned in Greek tragedies.

If you look back at much more recent history, even nineteenth century women only washed their hair every six to ten weeks. And, they often kept their hair covered most of the time. Nearly all Medieval women kept their hair covered all the time, no matter what their religion was. However, when you cannot wash your hair that often, you do want to keep it covered. I believe that it was the advent of indoor plumbing in nearly every household that changed all that. Women began to wash their hair at least once a week, except for certain times of the month, and it became all right to expose their heads - though even up through the 1950s, a woman was not well dressed unless she wore a hat.

Men and women tended to cover their hair in ancient days because they didn't wash their hair very often and covering their hair kept it cleaner longer.

In 2021, archaeologist Stephen Compton discovered the ruins of a Neo-Assyrian camp that may have been the base for a failed invasion of Jerusalem in 701 BC. The camp is located at Ammunition Hill, about a mile from Jerusalem's borders. Compton used modern mapping techniques and early 20th-century photographs to verify the location of the camp.

The Torah does not say that a woman must cover her head. This is from man-made halacha. However, 1 Corinthians 11 says that a woman must cover her head when praying or prophecying and that a man is to have his head uncovered when praying or prophecying. Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with a woman having her hair uncovered.

Oh so this is the same guy, who said that The Israelites crossed a (mistranslated) Red Sea,...(but according to this guy)...it was a (Sea of Reeds)! Therefore, how could The entire Egyptian army drown, in a Sea of Reeds? Yet, I ask...this guy says the translation has been wrong all these years! Why? ... Well, according to this man in the video,...(The Greek translation) meant Sea of Reeds! Yet, I question,...just why would a scholar,... look for a (Greek translation) , when the story of the Exodus, was never written in Greek in the first place! Makes no sense!

For facial hairs in men, why old religious men trim/shave their moustaches but grow their beard. Like Amish and Muslim? Can anyone trace back this tradition/ritual from antiquity? I have seen some old mesopotamian statues and figurines where this trend is observe to trim moustaches and keep beards?

in older cultures long hair symbolizes a close bond to spirituality and god,its kind of interesting that woman usualy have long hair as they have the mother instinct they are usualy closest to compassion and love and expressing it,guys mostly have short hair and are usualy less emotional and less into compassion then woman are. am not saying that apply's to all men and woman but it is the general rule, funny enuf i am a dude i am more into compassion and love and understanding then most people i know and funny enuf i have long hair.

Simcha Jacobovici isn't watching the headlines because they found the Assyrian city where the Angel of the Lord kills 185,000 men. 2 Kings 35-37 God Destroys the Assyrian Army 35 That very night, the angel of the Lord went out to the camp of the Assyrian army and killed 185,000 men. Early the next morning, when the army of Israel arose, all 185,000 soldiers were dead. 36 As a result, King Sennacherib of Assyria left and returned to Nineveh where he lived. 37 Later on, as he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, Adrammelech and Sharezer killed him with a sword and fled into the territory of Ararat. Then Sennacherib’s son Esarhaddon became king in his place.
