I watched many tutorials on skating backwards before but I seemed to easily lose balance & keep falling forward. After watching your video & follow exactly what you said, I can skate backwards without losing balance! You are too good at explaining the techniques & they are working magically.. Dirty!!! I skated a bunch as a kid and also in my 20s but I never learned to skate backwards. I’m a late mom and so now at 52 my 9 year old wanted to learn to skate and so I jumped at the chance to get back into it. (It’s been 25 years since I last skated!) This time I was determined to finally learn to skate backwards. I discovered your channel and started practicing at home and on a tennis court. Today for Mother’s Day I asked to go to the rink and I did it, I finally was able to go repeatedly around the rink backwards. Fairly slow bubbles at first but slowly better and better. I have to work on crossovers and all that but today was amazing. You are amazing!!! Thank you so much for all your teaching. And my daughter is learning from you too. She gets your explanation of shifting her weight and if she falls she says “up up up” and practices “drive a tiny car”. We love you Dirty!

you are a TERRIFIC teacher! I'm 60 now and started taking skating lessons in 2019. I got good enough to cruise around the rink and have fun but want to take my skills farther. Then 2020. So I think I went skating once that year. Now I just took another 6 week session (at the beautiful LeFrak Skating Center in Brooklyn) and it was useful but since I can't afford to take more in-person lessons I was looking around on YT and found you. Tried this today at the rink--your careful explanation of the weight shifting principles and specific tips got me rolling backwards with a smile on my face. You are going to be giving me lessons for the rest of the summer. Thanks SO much. If I'm ever in SoCal, I will definitely come by!

Best thing for toestops is the trash can if you really want to learn skating:) my opinion, anyway. There are many ways to stop on skates, toestops are kinda more of a crutch than anything...unless you're playing roller hockey or something, where you absolutely need them. Have fun out there! Cheers!
@Dirtydeborahharry5 жыл бұрын
@@kongchingpow awwww damn! If you throw those toe stops in the trash, you may never be able to learn how to do a toe spin, a bunny hop, a mapes, a toe loop, a flip jump, a lutz, a toe walley, speed skate starts from a dead stop on your toes, feel the exhilaration of rolling safely downhill BACKWARDS super fast, blocking in roller derby, running to gain speed in derby, etc. To put it plainly, toe stops are fun and just a tool for you to learn to use. I say skate with toe stops AND skate without them. Your skating will improve. Don't throw them away though … you will miss out on all sorts of fun!

Super helpful! I’m new to quads, and I’m having a ton of fun figuring out all the little tricks. One thing I’m struggling to figure out is if I should adjust my trucks or not, I’ve noticed mine have A LOT of play in them and it can make it weird to hold a long edge (they tend to wobble a bit) It might be helpful to do a video on the anatomy of a quad skate and how or when to tighten trucks, or what parts are good for customizing... And different brands of skates and their differences. It might be helpful for generating content
