I had just rotated my blades before I found this video. Nice job William. One thing I learned from this video is the little locking lever on the right side. Maybe mine was sticky but I never notices it locking. One thing I would add is that it is a good idea blow everything off while you have it apart. I also recommend that you wipe off the two rubber rollers with a paper towel doused with alcohol. That will greatly improve the feed without any hesitations.

Great video, thanks! My planer had suddenly stopped moving boards through, and I had no idea how to proceed. This video described the problem clearly and laid out the fix simply and understandably. I took my iPad to the shop and let the video guide me through rotating the blades, and presto -- all work great again. Couldn't ask for more from an instructional video. Thanks for the great work!

So my planar was leaving grooves in my wood and didn't like feeding it though - signs that the blades needed to be reversed / replaced. It was also a lot louder than normal I didn't realize until I rotated the blades and it was quiet compared to before rotating them. Also your shavings will go from nice and long-ish(depends on your board size) to dust and small little chips. My blades were worn bad enough that the edge was rolled over I had to sand the rollover away for them to sit correctly when reversing them something to keep in mind for everyone. Good video straightforward and easy to follow saw how it was done then went out to the garage and did it without referring back since it was so simple.

This is by far the most informative video on how to do this I have seen. But! One thing I picked up from a far less informative video was, there is a triangle on the blades. If you pay attention to which way it is facing, that assures you flip it in the right direction. One other thing I couldn't help but notice is.... My dust collector is powered by a shop vac. Clearly this guy does't even own a shop vac. Guys cleaning your planer will keep it from making those weird marks saw dust leaves on fine lumber.

I hear that one from harbor frieght is pretty good just waiting to be in town with a 50% off coupon to buy it. Their lathe tools are terrible though, their big lathe is what I use and it has been going for years, burned out one motor the replacement has been good though.

HELP!!! When I am done and screwing back on the last cover, the right side doesn’t go back enough to have it slide over the little notch just behind the screw. Hope that makes sense 🤞🏻 desperate to figure it out. Any thoughts?

I am not 100 percent certain what could be causing the problem. I would check to make sure no debris, or wood chips are causing the issue first though.

Hi Nicole, I think the cover you've mentioned is the tool tray. That tool tray holds the down the locking lever that you see at 2:15 in this video so that it doesn't engage while you're using the planer. When you slide the tool try back in, you have to make sure the locking lever on the right, depresses and slides back under it, or it will be in the way and it will stop you from aligning the notch in the cover and the screw hole. I'm not 100% certain this is the issue, but it sounds like it might be the problem. Hope that helps!

You rotate the drum and simply repeat the steps just like the first blade you change.

I don't think the planer knifes or blades feed wood though the planer. According to DeWalt the two rollers actually feed wood and when/if wood partials get embedded in the rollers that slows the rate of feed.

4:50 got to ask why not taking time to clean blade hold down bar and blow out debris in socket head screws to insure full hex key engagement?

You could certainly add that step, I guess i didn't see it necessary at the time.

@@_Shopfix Would it not be best to vacuum and blow that debris out before removing the blade to stop it getting under the blade? I've never changed a planer blade but except to soon.

Check to make sure there are no locks engaged and also check to make sure no turret stops are applied at 1”. I don’t think it had anything to do with the blades.

I work with pallet wood. I punch out the nails before planing. I missed a nail and I am certain I have a nicked blade because when I run wood through it has two ridges in it. I’m going to try to rotate my blades
