How to Rough-In Romex Wire for Outlets and Switches - WIRING BASICS

This video will show you how to run Romex wire to the outlets and switches you are installing in your basement. You'll see how to figure out which type of Romex wire (12/2, 12/3, 14/2, or 14/3) you should use, how to get it through the studs between your electrical boxes, how to secure your wire to studs, protecting wire from screws, and prepping the wire for the drywall that will be coming next.
I’m finishing the basement in our 40-year old home, and videoing each step along the way in a future bedroom. I am NOT a pro - just a self-sufficient DIYer finishing my basement on a budget. I've leveled the concrete and converted an old garage door threshold into an exterior door and window, and now I’m running electrical. I could totally hire a pro to come in and wire this thing for me, but why hire it out when I can build it on a budget myself???

Good job, however, I would strip the sheathing, connect the grounds using a green wire nut or a Wago connector, trim and fold the conductive wires deep into the box. Important if a roto zip is used to cut out for the boxes. I would have considered a service loop for the cable before box entry in case mistakes were made. Are you using pigtails or wiring directly to the screws?

Right or wrong, I use 12 ga even if 14 would be sufficient.

All good there @jgeisler - as you know, heavier gauge can be used without danger.
