You mean a flower beetle that is indigenous to Japan?
@mancyclediy5 сағат бұрын
Hi! Nope - I’m talking about Popillia japonica, commonly referred to as the Japanese beetle. The species name “japonica” gives honor to its country of origin.

Sevin also gets rid of those pesky pollinators. (sigh) Perhaps another method might be preferable.
@mancyclediyКүн бұрын
@mcconn746 Thank you for bringing up a common misconception. Pollinators need flowers, which those fruit trees do NOT have during June when Japanese beetles arrive. Follow the spray schedule of your local extension office to avoid putting pollinators in peril. Petal fall for fruit trees in the Midwest wraps up about 2 months before Japanese beetles arrive, so the pollinators are safe.

@@mancyclediy Thanks. Interesting. We have Japanese beetles in Georgia now. Our peas and beans are blooming and producing. That is good information if I can catch it at the right time.

Up to 12,000 years old they can be much older than that in North America regardless of what mainstream archeologist says Clovis people started showing up around 20,000 years ago and likely a few thousand years earlier. There's also a good chance that man was here around 200,000 years ago when the land bridge from Russia to Alaska was open during a ice age.

The stupid grubs are lawn destroyers too. I've heard that Seven kills pollinators along with the pests though. Do you happen to know if that is correct? I've been avoiding using it because I don't want to hurt honeybees or butterflies etc.
@mancyclediy16 күн бұрын
@bonnieamirault3782 Great Question. Your pollinators will be visiting flowers, so avoid using Sevin on anything with flowers to avoid hurting pollinators. I use Sevin on my fruit trees in June as beetles arrive, which is about 2 months after that last petals fall from those trees, so no pollinators are around them. Sevin will DEFINITELY hurt beneficial insects like pollinators, so you need to be very intentional about where and how you are using it if you are going to minimize your impact. Good luck!

Do not squish! they produce even more eggs that way. Best is insects, but if out of control it is better to trim it if you can and throw it out. then spray water. then if all that fails a pump sprayer filled with water, Bronner's castile soap and peppermint oil. dries them out and repels ants. the aphid herders.

Awesome stuff! So helpful. Glad this was in my recommended. Ladybugs for the win! They also eat small spiders; they're great for the environment, but my arachnphobia made this ladybug attribute very alluring! For anyone going to buy ladybugs, I'd only buy those native to your area (so they don't outcompete local ladybugs) and do so if there's none in your area because ones bought online *could* bring disease. If there are ladybugs in your area but not in your garden, you haven't made it attractive enough yet! But all considering, buying ladybugs can be a very good option and is what I plan to do :-) 🐞
@mancyclediy22 күн бұрын
Yay! Thank you! And good call on using only native ladybugs :)

Ladybugs have always solved my aphid infestation problems and I not only have lots of Shasta Daisies but have a good patch of Pyrethrum Daisies as well. Ants feed off the honeydew produced by the aphids so killing off the ants is also important as ants will attack good beneficial predatory insects like ladybugs

Those crate things they have at the gate to check you bags are smaller than the demotions they tell you are allowed when you buy your ticket. We stayed within the size limit listed, but when we got there they made us put our goods in, and they didn't fit. I brought a tape measure just in case, and when they told me I had to pay the fee, I measured right in front of them to prove it was 2 inches smaller than stated on the ticket in my hand, but they refused to even look at it. So deceitful! Another man behind us had the same issue, and took the tape measure from us to try and show the gate employees. They got very upset at him and almost didn't allow him on the plain. We took pictures of the measurements, but when we tried to get any help with it, we were told there is a fine print disclaimer that they have the right to change to required size whenever they want to.

10+ hours trying to get the go wild pass to work. Nope. No customer service no refund. No phone to contact them. Go wild is a scam if you pay $1000.00 only to get nothing in return. I could have driven to Denver for $200.00 and in less time than Ive spent with chatbots trying to get this fixed.
