Always love watching your videos and definitely agree that the wired doorbells are much better than the battery versions. I guess this install is a good solution, if there was absolutely no way for you to drill any holes at all, but I would imagine if you could drill a small hole, you could feed the ac adapter wire through the wall and just mount the doorbell on the outside of the house without the BOA mounting bracket and it's related hassles, and having wiring attached to a moving door.

I’m confused, how does this enclosure stop people stealing the doorbell unless at least some of it is wedged behind the hard plastic pieces, surely you can just pull the plastic out as it’s flexible and then just pulled the doorbell out of the enclosure as it’s not actually screwed to anything
@5phany52 жыл бұрын
Just super glue the plastic piece to the boa.
@owenashcroft81672 жыл бұрын
@@5phany5 that’s unlikely to work, superglue is unlikely to bond strong enough to keep the plastic in place, especially plastic on plastic, perhaps some epoxy glue might work, but I wouldnt trust an expensive doorbell to an extremely thin connection of glue that I’m fairly sure an opportunistic thief could pull out of place with only a small amount of effort
@LifeHackster2 жыл бұрын
It is not to Stop..to discourage people from messing with it. If somebody wants to take your doorbell, they will get it even if have it bolted down.

@@LifeHackster absolutely if the guy has a screwdriver he’s stealing your doorbell, I’m just not sure I’d be confident using that particular holder unless it wasn’t trivial to yank the doorbell out, definitely a gap in the market there for a no fixing wired doorbell holder

most doorbells are only two screws, easily filled with caulk or wood filler ect when removing
@abc123fhdi2 жыл бұрын
since the doorbell sits on the door itself this means the wire is flexing and could fray over time. This is why electronic deadbolts always use batteries.
@LifeHackster2 жыл бұрын
True..but there is slack on the wire clips and it might take a lot of door openings and closings for the wires to give in.
@Rancid_Ninja2 жыл бұрын
using a mount like that is the only way I can think of that you'd be able to use the ac adapter like he shows, it is against fire code to run non romex power thru the wall

I don't see how a small doorbell camera is going to be hard to steal in that setup. Also don't wired doorbells run a bit hot and need a metal plate on the back as a heat sink? Being surrounded by foam would be detrimental to the life span of the unit? Nice idea though. A 3D print of a custom enclosure would probably be optimal in this case.
@LifeHackster2 жыл бұрын
This is to discourage people from messing with it. If a person is really wanting to steal your doorbell, they will take it even when it is bolted down. True on the heat issue. I ran this for several days no issues but I’ll do a long term test and see if this will hold up.
@Rancid_Ninja2 жыл бұрын
3d prints have problems with warping from being too hot in the sun, unless you are doing resin printing but those are brittle and would crack apart from very little force

Well, this most certainly would not fit our door (our door overlaps with the frame, and the door has a multi point locking system, which is engaged by lifting up the door handle, then turning the key 360 degrees in the lock direction, to unlock, the key is turned 360 degrees in the unlock direction, then the handle is pushed down, and depending on the configuration of the door, the key may need to be turned in the unlock direction to retract the latch, our doors are configured so that no key is needed when they are unlocked)

my blink video door bell works great without any of this and costs 35 dollars, unreal value. i wired it to the chime which I think allows a few more features, rings the chime inside, and saves battery. yes a wired one will be better but i think you need to take the L on this one hackster 🤣 This doesnt seem like a very elegant solution. However I think video doorbell makers need to make one that has wired features with just chime wiring. Even a tiny amount of power should be enough if they tried I assume. I mean cameras work over POE that I doubt is pushing much juice. Same thing I think camera makers need to work on cameras that have wired features and quality, just are wireless with a solar panel/battery combo for power. Noone seems to do this but it seems like it should be possible. Whoever does these idea first will make a lot of $ I think.
