Nice work. We started with 1 truck back in 1980, and after 42 years we have over 400 employees and operate over 160 trucks every day with hundreds of thousands of customers. It starts with 1 truck and a hard work ethic and you’ll be successful in no time.

I work for a roll off dumpster company, the owner started like you, one truck 10 cans, now have 55 trucks 5,000 cans. A few suggestions, get rid of the auto tarpers, you will be fine with it. But when you hire drivers, will become a high maintenance item, also as you know, tight squeeze sometimes. Run sealer in your tires, you'll get a lot of nails in the landfill. We've tried a lot of hook lift brands. Now go with Palfinger

A guesstimate regarding this equipment cost .. $500,000. +/- It's important to work from 15 or 16 and save most all of your earnings and use it toward a deposit on business equipment and land rental/purchase. Then have knowledge of the business you will operate AND have great marketing skills or a known customer base in place. Best of luck to ya! 😎🇺🇸

Looks easy doesn't it? Well, the work isn't bad, if that was all you had to worry about then everyone would do it. If you are considering a business in transportation you need to face these facts: 1) CDL. You need one over 26.5k lbs gvwr. DOT number. You need one over 10k lbs gvwr. 2) Health cert. You need one if you drive a commercial vehicle. 3) Insurance. It's a HUGE expense, the biggest expense you will have to outrun every month. The cost doesn't change according to how little or how much you do, it's an 800lb gorilla on your back at all time. So you better hustle. 4) Equipment cost. He has all new nice stuff so his efficiency is great. Buy used and you will be chasing down hydro leaks, mechanical breakdowns, LOTS of flat tires, welding and painting cans, missing/stolen cans, and stuff you would never ever imagine. It costs you in repairs, and it costs you in work lost. 5) Scaling up. If you want to grow the size of the business, you will have to hire drivers. Drivers tear your shit up like you actually hired them to do that instead of swapping cans. In the end guys, it's a "money in vs money out" game, with a whole lot of stuff that stops you from getting the actual work done. I worked for a company for a year before starting my own so that I would be eyes wide open, and man that really helped. Just make sure they don't make you sign a no-compete.

No dirty 30's? As someone who dose construction the 30 yarder is by far our favorite. But i like it keep up the good work. Also in NY everyone has to tarp They're loads. Dont know what your DOT officers are like but over here no tarp is a instant $500 fine.

Perhaps sub-30s are a neglected market.. hence a small operator can chisel thier way in.

Do you have a relationship with the dumps for reduced cost>? paid 90 dollars recently to dump ONE truck bed on junk at the dump.... when i was getting 10 yard dumpsters for around 200....... I cant see where the money is made unless you own the Dump or have a relationship with them????

Get a pup trailer. It will allow you to do twice the work and burn 1/2 the fuel. I had 4 hooks and 100 boxes.
@hahadumpstersllc77822 жыл бұрын
Definitely something to look into. Thanks for the advice!
@MrTomkaeding2 жыл бұрын
Another cool thing I used to do is sleeve containers together and if we had three or four drops one truck could drop three boxes all in one shot kind of like nesting them that always worked really good. A spread axle pup is the way to go. Really easy to connect and disconnect.

@@MrTomkaeding I will plan on looking into all of that. Thanks for the advice!
