Yeah, the fall got pretty crazy again. Hoping to change things up again and not take on some of the huge projects I have been doing.

Great advice Kevin, and the Haimer is a fantastic tool, I’ve had one from day one with my Syil X7. Keeps the vids coming.

I use the depth on the caliper and measure in fusion . This insures the outside cut is clear. For years i have been using a dowell pin to set cutters. bring the cutter past the depth of the pin and RAISE UP TILL THE PIN SLIDES UNDER never go down on the pin scrap the cutter. HAAS MINI

G’day Kevin. Great video mate with lots of good tips. One question though, where can I locate that screen and functions on my manual mill? I’m struggling to find the G54. Can you show me how to probe the “G-Spot”? Cheers 🍻. Aaron.

Listen @aaron Engineering I don't want to hear anything about this Kurtis bananas. He says aluminum wrong, and he probably puts unnecessary U's in words like color and neighbor. And he can't even spell tire properly! He is bananas haha

Can't wait to see the video on calibrating the Haimer in Z, never have figured that out but for X&Y alone they are very useful .

Hi Ken. Peter Betz has already made a video where he does an amazing job of explaining the theory and process. I'm going to take his video and cut the theory and just do the procedure part. I'll be linking to that video when I do mine, but you can check it out now if you want kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIOXpWicasZ3fKM

Hi, I've been helping my friend mill some aluminum hubs with his Protrak. I was wondering how you ended up low on the first inspection. Was it programming or tool height error? We had to test everything multiple times, because on the KMX controll you set the Z offset on the base tool and all the others are relative to that height. Every time you turn off the machine the tools need reset 😂.

Great tip Kevin. I’m a fan of all those mentioned. I.e. running a G54 check program, run a ghost cycle and or distance to go single block style. Cheers buddy 🍻

Thanks Aaron. I keep telling you I have no idea where Manuel is at nor when he is going to show up at your shop to help you run you blood letting machine. Please stop asking 😂

I was taught this same method for checking z on a tormach and really like it. I am now using a Haas and unfortunately cannot figure out how to do it easily as the haas display shows the z position relative to the spindle nose on the display, rather than showing the z position of the tool tip.
@MechanicalAdvantage2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gina. I need to look into this more on the Haas. I'm not sure there is a way to show that information on that control. We used the Distance To Go at the beginning of a program to make sure the tool was in the right area and it looked like about the right distance to the next move. I'll see if I can look into this more.

Noticed your Haimer doesn't quite return to zero (this is adjustable btw). Please do a sanity check and probe a 1-2-3 block in positive and negative directions (both x and y) to make sure you come up with the expected value. You may find one to be slightly off. Also (I'm betting you did) make sure your indicator ball is concentric with an indicator by rotating the haimer in the spindle (by hand) with an indicator resting on the ball to ensure no runout.
@MechanicalAdvantage2 жыл бұрын
Good eye. Here is a little secret. I pulled the Haimer out of the box, inserted a pull stud, and then made the video. So I haven’t done any calibration on the Haimer at all yet.

This is a great method. Thanks. BTW, would you have chosen the Syntec controller or this Siemens; any pros/cons?
@MechanicalAdvantage2 жыл бұрын
I'm really liking the Siemens control so far. It was intimidating at first, but George from Syil got me up to speed in less than an hour. I wouldn't be nervous about the Syntec at all. They both upsides. One of the things that I like about the Simens is the amount of support for it. Syntec is doing a really good job there too. They would be my top two choices over the other controls that are offered.

Hi 👋 How much price Syil X7?
@MechanicalAdvantage2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dolf. Where are you located. The answer to your question depends on how you configure the machine. I recommend you go to Syil.com and configure a machine the way you want to see the price. I’ll give you a very rough number in the $30k USD range.

Hi Tim. As someone that used to teach all the training classes at NYC CNC, you are going to absolutely LOVE the Syil over the Tormach. There is a KZbin channel named Nerdly and he does some videos on the Syntec kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJCXhYyCqZh9aqM

@@MechanicalAdvantage I have been after some of his videos lately and thank you for the recommendation. I could not be any more excited about the switch to the X7. I’ve been running SLOW production on my Tormach with manual tool changes and I just need it to cut pallets without me babysitting. The tormach has been great but I outgrew it much faster than I thought I would. Cheers!
