How To Run Faster Using Your Head - Literally

If you want to sprint and run faster you need to get your your head right! Head position plays a significant role in influencing running mechanics and speed. Why? Because it plays a major role in determining body positions and posture.
A lot of sprinters try to "stay low" and end up tucking the chin to the chest. This causes the hips to be out of alignment and throws off the center of mass - leading to reduced power output and slower sprinting. Conversely a good neutral head positions promotes optimal posture (the chain of power) throughout the entire body and allows you to maximize force production and run substantially faster.

I've been teaching myself this since last year. If I only knew better when I was young. I do, however, believe some sprinters actually run a really fast first 40 meters with head down, but it doesn't seem to translate to a smooth finish. Starting as explained here will give you a smoother finish!

The U Drill (aka Miami Drill) really helps, same with wall drills. Also just paying attention to head position during warm-up and drills so you build the habit. Here is a link to a video with those drills kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5W3pqKmf6xrfKc

For me it helps but it drains my stamina quicker. If I start of the opposite I start slower but my stamina builds as I slowly get into that position. So fck all that “technical technique” shit peeps. Do what makes you feel comfortable. I’ve won races without following proper technique before and it shocked people. Why? Because everyone’s different. Not every good advice is good advice.
@OutperformOfficial
@OutperformOfficial Жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct, everyone is different and what works for one person may not work for another. It's great that you found a sprinting technique that makes you feel comfortable and has helped you win races in the past. However, it's important to consider that proper sprinting technique is often based on biomechanics and scientific principles that can optimize performance and reduce the risk of injury. While it's true that not every good advice is applicable to everyone, it's still worth exploring different techniques and training methods to see if they can enhance your performance further.
@anonymousdelta7339
@anonymousdelta7339 Жыл бұрын
@@OutperformOfficial Oh yeah definitely. Pointers are a big help. But every sprinter will find their own way to apply that technique in a different way. There’s no wrong.
