Dr. Townsend, how can young political candidates minimize possible criticism and maximize their strengths as a young candidate?

Once we think the proverbial glass is half empty, it’s hard to remember that it’s also half full…. our brains are hard-wired to seek out and remember negative information. It’s important to know when you begin that people respond to it, but you can train your brain not to. Put your armor on top of your thick skin and remember it’s not personal. It might feel like it, but it’s not. Short witty responses work. They sting. But don’t ever go on defense. Campaign on the offense. Make your opponent do the work and never be held hostage by negativity. Just focus on your why. If it’s big enough, you’ll be okay. Jay was my mentor and if you want to run, hire him to run with you. He’ll turn your top layer into dolphin skin. Good luck.

fear not criticism. it’s part of the price one pays for power. if the cause is right defend it with all your might and fire back at the critics for refusing to embrace it.
