I ordered one yesterday for my soon to be delivered IONIQ 5. I have a similar setup as you do. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks for the info.

An alternative to a gas generator and/or solar home batteries. should be a winner if all works as hoped

Great video. We currently rent a townhome with detached garage about 25 feet from the house. Our landlord is cool with us installing an EV charger in the garage; going to see if we install a generator plug there too for a use case like this. Even if it's just one circuit due to the run length, we could keep our fridge and freezer going and run fans/small electronics for comfort.

I will use it when I play music so I have power where I play. I know you already gave it away and I just ordered one for me.

Thanks for the video. A generator intake would be my ideal setup since I have no indoor door between my garage and house. I would use a V2L adapter for power outage backup and electric lawn care equipment.

With the recent power outages here in QC, it would definitely be nice to power the house. Also, maybe my vacuum cleaner so that I dont have to lug an extension cord outside when cleaning the inside of the car!

We own two Ioniq 5s, and we live in an apartment. I get free charging at work as an employee perk. So I V2L to recharge my spouses EV overnight in the parking lot. I wish there was a V2V adapter that essentially combined thr V2L and a level 1 EVSE together into one seamless plug. It would mean less entry points for water.

Hi, perfect idea. Did you try this for example 10hours? If there is some time limit for usage V2L?thx

There’s no time limit except for how much of the battery you use. Most use cases I’ve seen the battery will last for 3 or more days

Why not just use a single Nema 5-15P male L14-30R Female, it would weight less and reduce the connections/required adaptors ?

Hello, how much does it cost to install an energy control panel like yours that can input energy? Maybe you also have solar power and storage?
@EVDude
@EVDude 10 ай бұрын
I do have solar panels and battery storage. The panel itself is around 500 CAD but getting it installed might cost you around 1000 CAD total. My panels and solar generator ended up costing around 7000$ but that's a bigger project. I'll probably do a video on it.

Hi, I recently took delivery of my ev6 and have been looking at ways to use the V2L. I’m in Quebec as well and experienced the lengthy power failure last year that lasted 3 days. Can I ask you what the cost was to get that set up. I’m debating on doing this or getting a gas powered generator 🤔which doesn’t sit well with me. Thank you. Great video by the way.
@EVDude
@EVDude Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. It will cost you around 1000$ to 2000$ to do this. It will of course depend on labour, but the parts are pretty expensive nowadays, to give you an idea, the panel itself was 450$. It's definitely worth it on the long run, I have since sold my IONIQ 5 and I'm currently planning on getting an inverter generator (which also doesn't sit well with me, but alternate options such as Ecoflow are too expensive).

Costco has a 7500 watts generator that is dual fuel made by Champion that is connected to my 400 lb propane tank which I can use to charge my EV and then us it to power my house!

What made you decide to use a 60 amp breaker for where the generator goes into the panel?
@EVDude
@EVDude Жыл бұрын
The panel I bought comes pre-installed with a 60A breaker. I am now using a solar generator with a 30A output and the breaker is on the generator itself. In the event I want to upgrade later on, I'll be ready with the 60A.

Hello, can you recharge another EV with the LECTRON V2L like the OEM V2L adapter from Hyundai? Can it be used at the same time as the plug below the rear seats to double the power output? Thanks.
@EVDude
@EVDude Жыл бұрын
I don't have the rear plug, but I believe there is only one inverter so you wont be able to double dip, it's probably one or the other. Yes, you can charge another EV at max 12A which is the usual amperage limit for level 1 charging.
@linlei475
@linlei475 Жыл бұрын
Thank’s for the info. Lectron doesn’t seems to be able to recharge another EV so the A2Z has an advantage!

My electrician is installing a setup like this for me next week, with the added challenge that my panel is in my basement, and my garage is a separate structure (but with 2” conduit back to the panel, so no digging!). Unfortunately as the output from the V2L is 15A he can only wire it into a single circuit, so I’m having to choose a single circuit to backup. That’s at least better than the zero backup I have now, and being able to just plug everything in and flip a transfer switch or lockout will be big for all the days our power goes out due to trees damaging lines out here in BC!
@EVDude

That's the way to go! I've added solar panels and a solar generator since this video. I'll probably make an updated video of my current setup and publish it soon. Thanks for watching!

@@EVDude - I look forward to seeing it! Our home was roughed in for solar (so conduits for wiring from the roof to the panel, but nothing else), and I too am looking at ultimately putting in a battery backup (I’ve been eyeing the GoalZero Yeti Pro 4000, but really like some of the other options as well), so I’ll be interested in seeing your setup!
@EVDude

@YaztromoX That's a solid choice with Yeti . I ended up getting an EcoFlow Delta Pro with 2x extra battery. So roughly 10.8 kWh and 3.6 kW output power.

@@EVDude I’m looking forward to the day when we can just buy a system based on a refurbished EV battery pack - even 75% of a 77kWh pack is about 58kWh of power - and once they’re relatively plentiful having such a large capacity could be really cost effective.

I'm puzzled by the conversion of 1 phase to 2 phase with a simple extension cord? How does this power all of the breakers in your box?
@EVDude
@EVDude Ай бұрын
There's a difference between having two phase vs splitting the same phase on different side of your breaker box. In this case, the cord splits the same phase on both sides of the box, hence why you should not use it to power breakers that require 2 phase (240V). In my case, they're all single phase breakers and do not intend to power anything with 240V.
@techgeek6848

@@EVDude Thank you for the clarification - is there any concern with overloading the neutral with this config? I'd love to be able to power both poles and all non-240V breakers, but I also don't want to burn my house down 😁
@EVDude
@EVDude Ай бұрын
@@techgeek6848 The neutral and ground are bonded with the V2L, so you have to make sure your transfer switch is capable of disconnecting the neutral from the main panel as you're not supposed to have ground and neutral bonded at two places.
@techgeek6848
@techgeek6848 Ай бұрын
That’s what I’ve found with the Lectron, it’s a floating ground whereas the OEM is bonded.
