Hi great video. So should I get 40 Amp or 50 Amp level 2 charger? For my 2025 Rav 4 plug in
@EVDude20 күн бұрын
@@rajsingh9156 level 2 chargers are usually 30, 32, 48 or 50A. The question you should be asking is, are you getting a level 2 charger just for your Rav4 Prime or do you want to future proof your installation for your future needs as running wire from the panel and hiring a electrician to do so could be expensive. My suggestion is to future proof your installation for an eventual EV usage with 48A and 6AWG wire.
@rajsingh915620 күн бұрын
@EVDude yes I'm getting it only for my Rav 4 plug in Hybrid. I will be selling my home in 2 years so will just have to eat that electrician cost twice. However I will keep you suggestion in mind when I move to my new home in 2 years. I got the Grizzl-E Classic, Level 2 240V/40A Electric Vehicle Charger and is the 14-50 model. Is this a good one? And I guess this 40 Amp should charge my RAV 4 PLUG IN in 2.5 hours, Right? And is it true that even if i get 50 or 60 Amp charger, since the Rav 4 plug in can only take max of 32 Amps, then it means that even with a higher Amp like 50 or 60, the charge time will still be 2.5 hours? Thanks once again for all your assistance. Your videos are simple and very real and your advice is very genuine. Regards
@EVDude20 күн бұрын
@rajsingh9156 In that case, you're making the right decision. Don't waste money if you're going to move. The Grizzle is a great charger and you don't need more than 40A. As you mentioned, the on-board charger for the car is 6.6kW but it can actually go till 7.2kW so that's 240V @32 A. Since voltage is pushed and amperage is pulled by the car, the car can only pull max 32A, so even if you get a 48A charger, it won't charger faster than 32A. Thanks for your feedback.

Was it worth the rear camera installation? I have the Solterra Touring. I've used FitcamX products in the past (Volvo), but it would make more sense to tap in to the built in rear camera used for the review mirror, opposed to adding a second camera and wiring. Overall, good video my friend! :)

Make sure you watch this Lexus NX hybrid service bulletin on damaging your engine ECU if you connect a short battery jumper pack negative clip to any of the hex bolts to the immediate left of the fuse box where the black ECU unit sits at. You can FRY your ECU board if you connect to any of the 7 bolts in that area. He recommends a higher bolt in the far upper right area just under the hood hinge area. Watch the video at the 7:00 min mark and then he shows you at 7:30 min mark where he connects the black clip to if you can’t reach the far left side clamp… kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2WsXqZ_gbmWa8U

Very important info about placing negative for the booster. Never ever put it on any metal bits going from the box on the left hand side of the fuses. It’s ECU cover and if you put it anywhere which is linked to it (there are few places which feel good but they link to this cover ) you can fry your ECU! This is quite serious money to replace. I use bolts on the right hand side of the fuses which link to body/suspension. Safest place is to follow manual. ( other side of the engine). Also - you should not charge battery using this metal pin for the booster. Charge should be done directly to the battery.

@EVDudeАй бұрын
@@jeremeywright It depends what fast means for you. If you want to fully utilize this car's charging capabilities, you'll need at least 30A at 240V. A 6-20 plug is limited at 20A and there aren't really any chargers compatible. The standards are Nema 14-50 and direct connections. You'll also have to do new wiring and new breaker to accommodate the new charger.

Thank you very much for making this video. The fuse tapping part (from 2:26) was very helpful, including the instructions on how to open the trim for the ground connection. This video is equally applicable to the Toyota Kluger 2017 model. I didn’t have a tester light, so I used a multimeter instead. For the battery, I used the "DOME" fuse, and for ACC, I used the second charger fuse point. After completing all the fuse taps and the ground connection, my dashcam wasn’t getting any power, which left me a bit puzzled. I checked the voltage levels at the fuse points, and everything seemed fine. Later, when I started the car, the dashcam started working perfectly. My dashcam is a BlackVue, and I guess it needed a kick-start for both the parking mode and ACC mode to begin functioning.

I'm puzzled by the conversion of 1 phase to 2 phase with a simple extension cord? How does this power all of the breakers in your box?
@EVDude3 ай бұрын
There's a difference between having two phase vs splitting the same phase on different side of your breaker box. In this case, the cord splits the same phase on both sides of the box, hence why you should not use it to power breakers that require 2 phase (240V). In my case, they're all single phase breakers and do not intend to power anything with 240V.
