Erin, Why are you not making more KZbin videos? You are a natural at it!!! By far this is one of the most informative videos that I have seen about sweet peas. I want to start growing them next year and have been doing a ton of video research on “sweet pea”. ALL of the videos I’ve seen are how to grow. NO videos on seed saving, now a few mentioned you can do it but none showed how to do it. I’m a very visual person so seeing someone do it will stick with me forever. I have dyslexia so struggling with reading about how to do something I will never retain. Thank you for this video and all of the growing knowledge that you share! Please do more how to videos!!! You and your team are amazing! Wish I could have purchased some of your seeds before they sold out, maybe next year😊

This video had everything I needed. I’m growing sweet peas since I saw em at the dollar store, and today I woke up to see the little pods starting to form and I had no idea when to harvest them or what to do.

Thank you for this video! I am currently in a seed production class through Cornell University, however, it is very vegetable dominant. Not much information is available on flower seed production, and so this resource is phenomenal! I’ve considered growing sweet peas as my season project for the class, and your video confirms to me that I should do it! I’d love to work with more varieties and so I hope you continue to offer future videos on this! It would be an amazing opportunity (and my goal) to work as a licensed seed producer for a company. 😊

Thank you, Erin, this is really helpful. I'm watching in anticipation of saving my own sweet pea seeds this year. It's really handy to see what the seed pods should look like when they're at their best for saving. I've been holding off, but think it might be time this coming week during a dry patch!

The Floret sweet peas I planted last fall are still giving a few stems each day and they really are the best sweet peas of all I planted. All except the turquoise , two packets gave very few blooms. I have started saving seeds from them.

They just need to be in a cool, dry, place where pests can't get to them. Having them in the dark isn't necessary.

You do an amazing job of explaining and videoing. Sound is great too! Thanks for sharing your information in such an understandable, clear way. I did notice my pods this year and saved some, but am curious, the one's that are flung around naturally, do they grow next year? In a colder zone like 6?
@TeamFloret

We're so glad you enjoyed the video, @upnorth21! You might have some that sporadically pop up, but you’ll have much better success sowing seeds that were dried and stored indoors.

Thank you Erin! I had a packet from floret that I grew this year (Kirkland, WA) and I was surprised to only get maybe 5-7 pods from all of the plants. I wonder why that is? I thought I would have so many more.

How essential is the drying process after you pick? I don’t really have a warmer space than the inside of my house and it stays pretty cool even in the summer.
@TeamFloret
@TeamFloret Жыл бұрын
Hi @airemay! The drying process helps make sure that any excess moisture is removed from the seed so that it doesn’t mold in storage. If you have a sunny window that you’re able to set your seeds in front of, that could help give them a little additional heat and speed up the drying process.

Is it important to keep the little string looking thing that is connected to the seed intact with the seed?
@TeamFloret
@TeamFloret Жыл бұрын
Hi @ztag1p! Nothing should remain attached to the seed. The important thing is to make sure that your seedpods are at the right stage before harvesting. Good luck!

I wish I could save seeds from my sweet peas. I can’t even get them to grow as I live on a hillside & something is eating my sweet pea vines. I have tried most deterrents on the market to no avail. I’m so sad about it.
