A couple of hints: video the car you are renting before you get in. Note any visible scratches as you walk around it, even videoing the undercarriage. Now you have documentation of the condition of the car. Next, you can get status with Hertz with a higher Delta status. Other airlines probably do this as well--Delta is the one I use.

I worked in auto insurance claims and learned that it is more expensive to rent a car from an airport location and that an option is to rent from a place that is close to the airport and have them pick you up or drop the car off to you there. I'm not sure which route is the cheaper way to go, but definitely work checking out. Along with taking a pic of the mileage, it is also a good idea to take pictures or a video of the car when you're done with it, if an employee doesn't go over the car with you. That way you have proof of the condition of the car as you left it.

Well I did that in Orlando, I went to a HERTZ rental one mile away from the airport I had them pick me and my family up at the airport. I will never do this again as it took them 3 hours to pick us up! I was so PISSED! I will pay the higher price time time around!

Other car rental companies have similar programs, if Hertz doesn't work for you. Keep in mind, most programs don't help you at smaller city (outside the airport) rental facilities. We've run into this after cruises when picking up a car to drive to the airport in.

We are Alamo Insiders and have the same benefits as Hertz Gold. Plus, Alamo rental rates are far cheaper than Hertz. We were going to rent from Hertz next trip so that we could rent an EV in San Diego, except Hertz no longer rents EV and I found out the condo we were renting doesn't have that many chargers in their parking lot.

Always learn something out of each of your videos. I got the double-sided sunglass case for my sister for Mother’s Day. She really liked it. I have a funny story about a car rental, my friend, and I went river rafting in Oregon. We rented a car because it was a cheaper option to have a rental car for a couple days. It just sat there rather than a shuttlewhich was more $. the funny thing was about. That story was we got to the airport in Oregon and we headed towards the rental cars she could not remember what company she rented from. So we walked up to the counter and asked and the second one was a hit.

Even with the membership, we still waited for an hour at Charleston. The group of people waiting with us said this is constantly an issue there. But in San Diego, it was SUPER fast and easy (once we got to the off-site garage). Loved it!! Great tip.

Hertz Gold member for over 15 years here. I rent from Hertz every time I go to Italy. Last trip, had an issue with the car, out in the countryside in Tuscany. We just left the car and they sent a truck down to pick it up and we never had to deal with it. We took a taxi to the nearest Hertz dealer, they got us a car, and later reimbursed us for the taxi ride cost. I am a fan.

I got bad info and now am being told I have to rent something prior to going to Italy or I can't skip the line. after the 14 hour flight They won't let you the first time - and will not budge. Great information:) However... We are traveling from Maryland to Boston Logan where we are renting a vehicle from Hertz then driving to Maine! Became a GOLD member and got the Hertz app on my phone (which canceled my original reservation and created a new one). Probably user error😁 Spoke to customer service who confirmed when we arrive at Logan Airport to pick up our Hertz rental car we DO need to come to the counter. Another good tip is if you are wanting to rent a particular car at the airport; do the rental pickup on a Monday morning. That is because travelers are turning in their rentals early to catch their flight going out. Because of this, the rental lot is full of cars to choose from. Also, get to the rental lot about 1 1/2 hours earlier before your pickup time so you can walk the lot and write down the vehicle number and space number of the vehicles you like to rent so that when you go to the counter and they try to give you a vehicle you may not like you can simply ask the counter attendant to switch you to the vehicle that you want by simply giving them the type of vehicle ,scan code number and parking space number so that they can put you in that vehicle.

We just got back from Phoenix. American Airlines had a deal with Budget, so we made a reservation. Apparently everyone else did too. One hour and 10 minutes in line. None of the other car rental companies had lines. When I asked the counter people why, they said Budget has all the cars. I never thought about checking the reviews for specific car rental companies at individual airports (While waiting in line I figured that out). Lesson learned!

Hertz in BARCELONA SPAIN IS A DISASTER! They refuse to pick up the phone, EVER. The app doesn’t work so you cannot communicate with them for ANYTHING. When you return your car to them, I suggest you video the entire return process to make sure they accept your car with no hidden fees or penalties later.

I never rent at the airport, I will always find a way to get to an off airport location to rent a car. Yeah it might be an inconvenience for some people but for me it is well worth it. There are usually no long lines at an off airport office. The biggest advantage is you don't pay all those extra feea and taxes that you do at airport locations, as they can sometimes double the cost of the rental.

Hi, when you rent cars, you choose small sedan, mid-sized sedan, SUV, etc. All the airport Hertz locations have a Gold counter. But you should not need one.

Hello Laurie, I have a question. We sometimes travel for short getaway vacations (2 adults and 2 kids 6-12y.o). We usually have one stop (for example -Seattle-New York-Aruba). We buy tickets for 4 people. We have one check-in luggage and 1-2 carry-ons (for 4 people, I have my medicine and kids warm/changing clothes). And every time flight attendants tried to take away our 1-2 carry-ons from us. Carry-ons have allowed dimensions. Just for our carry-ons planes do not have space... Usually, with a little "fight" for my carry-on, they gave it to us. Last our vacation (3 years ago), a flight attendant from 1 class!!! (we were in the regular seat area) was very pushy and that way toward us => "Or give away your luggage or get out of the plane!" She forcefully took our luggage from us and yielded - why we don't want to give up the carry-on, it will be near the plane when we arrive in New York. It was not there. She just smile and said then you will see it in your final stop. It was a very rude 1 class stewardess. When she took our 1 and only carry-on for 4 people, we came to our seats, the plane started to move compartments across our seats opened, and on all 3-4 places for carry-ons, there was 1 STRAW HAT and 1 CANE !!!! We were in shock. At this same time (when our carry-ons were forcefully taken out from us, one man held the plane because he was struggling on the back of the plane to fit his HUGE BAGGGGG(in size like our 5 carry-ons connected together) -it was HUGE. How even he was allowed to come with that huge bag on the plane...and he ended up giving it away (his final stop was New York). Does it even legal if we pay for 4 people for tickets - to throw away our only 1 carry-on? What can we do to protect our rights? It says that we are allowed to have one carry-on and one personal item - but that rule is not for us. Please, you travel a lot, may you share what to do. I apologize that my question was not about VIDEO.

Two things if it ever should happen. Flat tires, never change them if your able. You have to call or if you cannot get thru have someone like AAA to do it. They will charge you if a professional doesn't do it. I was in Vegas out in the boonies and it was past midnight on a street. I called but could not get thru. I had the lug nuts off but could not get the tire off. So I called my AAA and the guy came and changed it. When I turned the car in they were going to charge me and it isn't cheap. Luckily with AAA they didn't. The other is fuel if you don't let them fill it. Always get a receipt that you filled it for proof if they question it. I'm just to lazy so I let them fill it.

Great info. If the car has scratches, dings etc when picking it up then how do you go about documenting it other than taking photos/video because if the claim you did said damage then what? You can’t argue it on the spot after the fact.

Right, I take a pic and report them as I leave, but with Gold you pick your car. So if I saw them I would choose another one. But I would report them upon check out. For me, my windshield got cracked on the interstate on one trip, and my credit card did everything for me. I had to give him all of the info necessary.

They both agreed with you but then I called the third place to verify, because that’s how I am😆, and the HERTZ in Ireland said absolutely not. You must go to the desk in the terminal before you can go pick your car up. FYI. I was hoping I could go directly to pick the car up but unfortunately in Europe, at least Ireland, no go.😔

My tip........make sure u bring the credit card that u paid with for your rental car(I like to prepay). I did not last time and we would have been screwed if my husband didn't bring a extra credit card for emergencies! Budget now likes to have proof that it is YOU who used your credit card and not someone else. So if u dont have the card you put into their website, they will insist u use another card!! No matter what rental car company, always bring the credit card u used to prepay or to reserve but pay later.

Hi, you only have to show your ID to get off the lot if you have paid for the car ahead of time if that makes sense. We use a certain one for online purchases.

Never return a car without meeting the return representative. They need to look for damages and write that they found none while in your presence or you could face an expensive argument over how much damage was found at check in and whether they will file a claim against you. If you’re running late take pictures of the entire car inside and out to give you some protection against bogus claims

Sign up with the other rental companies. I have memberships with Avis, National, Hertz, Budget, Dollar, and Alamo. They're all free. I get to skip the airport lines.

We will never rent from Hertz again. We rented in December, 2022. We rode on the PA Turnpike fir about an hour to our destination. Wasn’t sure how we would pay the toll. Thought we’d get a bill. We sure did. Hertz charged us $270.00!!! They never explained their toll charge before we rented the car. Never again!!!

Not Hertz's fault. We rented a car and were also curious about the tolls. We were used to the old system of dropping coins in. I asked the guy who checks the paper work before you leave. He said it's on the windshield just pull it out and they charge you the tolls. You didn't ask.

@lynettesousa4503 Avis and Budget are the cheapest Hertz and National are more expensive But with them you book a Midsize car and walk outside and choose any car parked in your area if Selection. For example: Hertz Gold/National Emerald will have cars like Midsize sedans, Standard Sedans, Fullsize sedans, Compact SUVs, and Midsize SUVs Hertz Five Star/National Executive will have Fullsize Sedans, Premium Sedans, Luxury Sedans, Midsize SUVs, Standard SUVs, Sports cars, Convertibles, and Premium Crossovers Hertz President Circle/National Elite will have Fullsize Elite Sedans, Standard Elite SUVs, and Premium Elite SUVs

I have rented from Dollar for over 25 years in their rewards program. Never have waited in a line. Usually rent in Tampa Florida. Vehicles are on property at the airport. Never have used Hertz, too expensive, Dollar is less expensive. Safe travel.

Blessings...you skip the line with gold every time you make reservations for a rental. I have been a GOLD member for like 3+ years. I LOVE HERTZ! It feels so good to come off a plane; walk through the airport; (Hertz in the airport). SKIP THE LINE, but make sure you name is on the Presidential Circle board (found in airport in Hertz's car rental area) straight to HERTZ PRESIDENTIAL CIRCLE in the airport garage; jump in a car within that circle; you check out on your way out of the garage. OH MY precious LORD! Whoever thought of this idea; was a straight GENIUS! I LOVE IT! I LOVE HERTZ! SOOO.. FREAKIN CONVIENT!! Thanks for sharing. (PROTECT YOURSELF: DO NOT FORGETTO VIDEO YOUR CAR FROM FROMT TO BACK UP AND DOWN AND SEND TO YOURSELF IN YOUR PHONE AS A TIME STAMP!)
