This is a great video! Usually in books, they just translate things as "broken/broke down", so this video really helps to differentiate

On one hand it's helpful that different verbs are used for different things but it's a lot more to learn... and more chances to make mistakes. I'm glad you did this video as it is, as always, so clear.

Tip -다 is using for Dictionary form Ex) 하”다”, 가”다”, 자”다”, 입”다”. -요 is using for colloquial & polite, or “Let’s ~”, “Shall we~?” Ex) 해”요”(Let’s do) 가요(Let’s go). Remove -요 is using when you are talking with your friends, younger person. Ex)해(Do, dude), 가(Go, man)

Honestly I feel like these are the easier ones to remember. It's 'break' that I find confusing. 부수다, 깨뜨리다 and 망치다. Especially the first one because people tend to conjugate it as 부셔, or 부셨다 for some reason. Here's hoping for a follow up video.

Yes, right. But, exactly “망가지다(dictionary form)”, not “만가지다”.

What does 뜨리다 mean in 망가뜨리다 and what is the difference between it and 망가지다? I heard it used in a show where a girl broke the room's heater and the other girl said, "언니 망가뜨렸어요" Thanks in advance. 😄
@kim4462
@kim4462 4 жыл бұрын
망가뜨리다 means “break (intentionally), but 망가지다 means “to be broken”. Ex) The baby “broke“ the chair. -> 그 아이가 의자를 “망가뜨렸어요(polite past form of 망가뜨리다)”. The clock was broken (itself) -> 저 시계가 “망가졌어요(polite past form of 망가지다)”. It is just difference of “passive” or “active” expression.

@@kim4462 Oh ok thanks for the info. Does 뜨리다 mean something as a verb?
@kim4462
@kim4462 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, 뜨리다 can used to particular verb which is related “have something act” Fall (something) - 떨어”뜨리다”. Be fallen - 떨어지다. Break (Something) - 망가”뜨리다”. Be broken - 망가지다. Ex) It was broken =그것은(It) 망가졌어(was broken) I broke this =나는(I) 이것을(this) 망가뜨렸어(broke)

Not quite. 그릇 also can mean "plate" too. You can check the official definition in Naver, but the definition isn't so strict.

@@GoBillyKorean Ah okay :) Good to know. I got mildly scolded by the mom of my Korean friend when I visited Busan when she wanted a 그릇 and I gave a plate that's why I was so focused on that word haha but thank you Billy:)
