Years ago I tested at the "near native" level on the Department of Defense Spanish test. Due to regular use, I think my Spanish has only gotten better since then. I watch your videos because you are so professional and always very clear and concise. As a professional teacher/trainer my whole work life, I know how much effort it takes to make it look as easy as you do. You are right, there is usually something I pick up that either I didn't know or had forgotten. Always good to review! If nothing else, it's a joy to watch you just being such a good teacher. You always impress. Would love to live in Mexico part of the year some time. Best regards from Indiana!

I guess I’m one of the people whom you don’t understand why we watch your videos when we’re already fluent. I echo some of the other comments here, that they are simply enjoyable for those of us who love the Spanish language, and your understanding of certain things which specifically trip up native English speakers is definitely value added. Watching your videos I have had several “aha” moments in terms of the “why” of something, because I learned Spanish intuitively by immersion and a well used paperback dictionary I carried with me everywhere (no google or even internet back then…), rather than with formal instruction. And I very much appreciate your use of proper grammatical terms. Since I didn’t learn Spanish in a classroom, I don’t know the names of the various tenses, I just use them. I remember doing one of those on-line Spanish placement tests to assess one’s level. My answers to the actual Spanish questions were all correct. Where I messed up is when they wanted me to identify a conjugation in a specific tense, e.g. the “subjuntivo pretérito pluscuamperfecto” form of whatever verb. Now when I look that up (hubiera / hubiese + past participle), it’s a tense I use with ease, but of course I don’t remember that it’s formally the subjunctive pretérito pluscuamperfecto tense. Anyway, I’m a fan of your videos and recommend them to friends who are trying to learn Spanish.

It is difficult to teach to all levels, but you do a great job. Even if I know something, your lessons are great refreshers. I feel like I am a c-ish. I can carry on a reasonable conversation but I have a lot of trouble with movies, TV, radio, etc. Often, I understand when I have spanish subtitles, but even words I know, don’t register with my brain when spoken. I would love some lessons where you play movie/TV clips and deal with words that are run together, truncated, etc. Thanks

Why do we watch and listen? 1 The A1 to low B2 are learning or filling in gaps in their learning. 2. Refresh what one has forgotten even for the B2-C2 learners. Studies state that we need to see or hear certain words or phrases 10-15 times for it’s deep in our memory. I do save some of your examples in Anki because I will forget but by reviewing in a week, a month or a year it will be cemented in my long term memory. 3 As an native English speaker and a good grasp of Spanish you understand why certain concepts are difficult for English learners. The B2 to C2 probably took lessons with native Spanish teachers that couldn’t understand why students don’t get it or can’t explain the why is it this or that way. And because as adults we learn better knowing why. 4 Your idea of plug-ins. I searched my files and saw the phrases used today but never did I consider them in terms of plug-ins or drop-ins phrases. I too love discovering patterns. 5 You are living in Mexico so you know how Spanish is spoken and used plus your lovely wife adds her Colombian background to the lessons. People trust that when they go to or live in Mexico they will speak like a local. 6 The lessons are short and specific. 7 You have a unique and effective teaching style. You aren’t like teachers with their textbooks.

You are definitely one of the most advanced non-native Spanish speakers that follows my channel. You are super advanced. You make some very good points. I would like to address #5. I did live in Mexico full time for several years; however, my wife and I had to return to the U.S. to look after her mother. She is suffering from some cognitive issues. Our goal is to move back to Mexico at some point. We still have permanent residency there.

HS Spanish, just learned some verbs and some conjugation. When real life happened years later as a foreman with a Mexican crew it was a shock that I knew how to say nothing. Years go by and learn the names of tools bu using a marks-a-lot to write the name on it. Now with you I am learning sentence structure and see what some of the words look like when written. The Spanish I know is related to work, but nothing when socializing. This is the best! 😊

An act of Congress around 1956 did the damage. Gorge Washington spoke Greek, Latin, English, French, and all of the native languages of the Ohio Valley. Franklin Roosevelt did not need the CIA. There was no such Thing. He spoke German. So he knew what Hitler was up to. Write Congress ask them to refund language study at the primary level. I tell native mono English speakers all the time that if they want to get into the best universidades in the US they will need to prove they have had a language other then English during their years in school. Most often that warning Is ignored.

Cool videos man, I don't how i even stumbled upon them (native Spanish speaker here). Great level of Spanish! If i may contribute to your already amazing work, I've noticed you hit the letter d pretty hard, making it an occlusive sound in every situation instead of varying it between that and the fricative sound, I think making that small adjustment would help you sound more natural while speaking the language and could help your learners have a better understanding of the pronunciation of the words. Great job man!

This might be a strange ask but lately I’ve been wondering how I can make my Spanish sounds more casual like when speaking in real time for example, in English saying things like “I’m just going to the shop” or “that’s so good” rather than it sounding formal “I’m going to the shop” or “that’s very good” I hope I’m making sense but I think it would be very helpful if there could be a short video on this

Great video as usual. Love the practice sessions at the end. When you first mentioned it, I thought "ya es hora de" meant "it's time already" like when time flies and there's that element of surprise. e.g. It's 6am already?! I've gotta get to my class at 6:30." . But I guess not. Anyway, another great lesson, es hora de irme😅 Hasta luego!

We all must watch because time is not the same every where. A native Spanish speaker most often does not know how time differs from place to place. So any phrase with time reckoning in it is difficult to deal with. Thus level of language does not provide a different point of view that comes from living in another part of the World .kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6TZl5qan5ejbJo
