Thank you so much for this video! I am 68 years old and not a techie. But the instructions in this video were very easy to follow on my phone. Sometimes companies like the rental agency for my apartment or my internet provider prefer a scan over just a photo, but I didn’t want to pay for an app to scan the rental or internet contracts.

I’m always amazed when I learn just how useful these phones are. I;ve scanned to Notes a few times it’s quite an intuitive task. I usually have to relearn how to carry out tasks with my phone, but it’ll always be that way, as I don’t do these things very often. Thanks for the vid.

Thank you for the demo of notes/files. One thing that you missed that is important. When scanning a page of text the result is I assume an image file. What if I want to make some changes to that doc and then email it? Is OCR available in Notes or Files?

What’s wrong with my iPhone 8 plus, iOS 167.10? When I go to notes, new note, I don’t see any camera icon, just a keyboard on the bottom of the screen. No tool bar on top of the keyboard, just typing assistant. The Files method works for me.

Well, OH, I use notes all the time. Never knew it scanned. Grabbed a book, Pride & Predacious lol, scanned as a test, it worked. I got the pen, scribbled a note on top of page - it worked and saved - Yippee Ta & so much more it can do 😊 I pinned to the top as I have too many things in Notes.

I didn't know until now that the notes app could do this, I just tried and it works fine. The one thing I couldn't do was save the file as an image - JPEG or PNG format. Can you please let me know if that feature is available? I've been using Adobe Scan for this exact purpose, it's ad-free and works fine with the function to save the PDF as an image in JPEG.

Right now I haven’t found a way to scan with the iPhone in jpeg or other formats other than PDF. Camera app takes pics but you loose the scan feature. Wish they would add it.

Iphone 13 here. It didn't have the controls on the top like yours did when you opened 'create document'. But I found a place that said to upgrade the application. I did that and now the controls show up. That might be something you need to add to your tutorial.

The Apple update iOS 18 moved it to the 3 dot button in the top right or tap the paper clip icon and the camera is there nown

Yeah, use the notes app open the camera option like I show in the video but select scan text. When the camera opens, hover open the text and select insert. That is best way for free that uses iPhones features. As for apps I am not sure but I feel like there are a lot.

Any way to make the scanned PDF smaller without compressing it into a zip file. Many multi page PDF’s downloaded from a website are much less than 1 M in size. If you print then scan the same document in iOS it will much larger, always greater than 1 M. This requires a lot of storage of done often.

With the iPhone it is tough but on the mac there is an option to export the pdf from the preview window. If you have a mac, open the pdf with preview, tap file, export and when under the quartz filter drop down select reduce file size.

You have to look around the sections of the file app. Depends where it defaults to or you may not have tapped save. If it saved you have a search box in the files app, Usually the saved name is Scanned Document, so in files just type that in the search box and see if it appears. If it does, check the scan and see if it was the one you scanned. If not, you may not have saved it.
