help me understand this a little better since I have had 2 dvt's in a 9 year span I want to learn more, my question is Do you test the superficial vein system separate from the deep vein system?
@VeinCareAcademy5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. Yes, the vein systems are scanned separately.

@@VeinCareAcademy thanks that exactly what I remember which explains why they misdiagnosed this blood clot. They ran only 1 pass. Unfortunately that delayed my treatment 3 months and now that I have properly diagnosed I am not working with a calcified clot not a readily dis solvable.BTW this video was very helpful. May the good Lord bless us all.

4:50 what is a large reflux?
@VeinCareAcademy Жыл бұрын
For deep veins, significant reflux is >1second, for superficial veins it is >0.5s

That first doppler of the common femoral vein looked like reflux to me. Definitely greater than 1 second of reversal of flow.

this video helps me understand what reflux is thanks, what I would like to know is today I had a scan done to both legs for DVT. As I had one previous from my accident last year. My feet swells all day every day and have a heat sensation only on the right foot and the foot is swollen and super sensitive. While the technician was scanning she saw what she said was vein incompetence or vein reflux. She further checked this again to report to the radiologist. From my understanding she stated that blood was flowing instead of one direction it was flowing backwards. She said this was due to a damage valve in the vein. I understand there is no cure but it is treatable. Since I cannot walk on the right foot (it was damaged a lot more than the left). What does this mean having this condition? Will I be in constant pain? They (surgeon on follow up apptmt) that its possible that I may have CRPS. What I'm trying to find out is a) how long will I be unable to walk and b) will I be able to walk normal again. I know you don't have all the information. But after the operation (ANKLE ARTHROSCOPY AND SYNDESMOTIC STABILISATION they had to 'make' ligaments and insert pins in my ankle). Now after 15 weeks I still cannot walk on the foot, there is a degree of pain 8/10 at tops and a constant 4-5/10, I'm on pain medication, nerve block, anti-inflammatory . I'm still in a cam boot also. I can take it off when I'm at home and elevate the foot however, it stays swollen and the skin is very tight. From the calf to the tip of my toes this is very swollen, the toes which I cannot feel anything just pressure is enlarged. I've spoken to both the surgeon and my GP and I'm not getting any real answers and this has been going on for the past 15 months now.

My GP has requested I have this procedure done and I'm a little confused why when I don't have vein issues but instead extreme pitting edema in the tops of my feet. Can you please tell me if this procedure is what I need to have done?

this is a stupid question, but how do you measure/know the length of the reflux?
@VeinCareAcademy7 жыл бұрын
Not a stupid question at all. We can measure the length of vein affected by reflux (in centimetres) and we can measure the duration of the reflux in seconds.
@gustavogarcia81147 жыл бұрын
you measure in Doppler mode the time the reflux occurs..usually more than 0.5 sec is considered positive for superficial veins and more than 1 sequin deep veins.

Shouldn't the pt being laying down ? Thank you for the interesting lesson ..I'm sure you've saved many lives
@VeinCareAcademy7 жыл бұрын
In general, when scanning for reflux, the patient should be standing. When scanning the deep or superficial veins for thrombosis (including phlebitis) it is best to scan the patient lying down.
@gustavogarcia81147 жыл бұрын
Hi, i scan the deep venous system with the patient laying down and for superficial veins also in both positions, i have seen that if there is true reflux in the affected vein, it will show both standing and laying down, and sometimes i get a better reflux pattern when the patient is relaxed and laying down.

Very interesting,I'm calling my dr Tommrow and insisting on a scan

I have a sore swollen area on my upper outer thigh. Could that be a superficial clot? It wouldn't be dvt in that position would it?
@VeinCareAcademy7 жыл бұрын
It is difficult to advise you without a duplex ultrasound scan. In most cases phlebitis is red and tender. Only a duplex scan can determine if you have a DVT and/or phlebitis
@Texasgirl20238 жыл бұрын
is this a colorflow dollar of the legs? If so why are you having him stand up? I had a color flow Doppler done and they had me laying down is it better to get it standing up?
@VeinCareAcademy8 жыл бұрын
This is a scan of the superficial veins and the emphasis here is to detect reflux (reverse flow with gravity). A standing scan is best for this. For the deep veins, the emphasis is on detecting clots and obstruction, and in the case of a deep vein scan, the patient is usually examined lying down.

You don’t need to use the angle for veins. Arteries, yes. Common mistake
