A general rule of thumb is 4 to 1 on a scarf. I like to use titebond type glues on sheeting. It's way more flexible and easily sands off. The same technique can be applied to stringers and when you have a repair to make. Nice video!

Have you considered scarfing using the thickness instead of the width? In 1983 we flew gliders in the World Championships that used 1/64 ply wing skins, scarfed using the thickness, chamfered at 16:1 over 1/4". They never broke at the scarf. I haven't done it with balsa, but I don't see why it would be different, apart from it being more difficult to get a shallow chamfer in balsa.

Hi Richard, thanks for the comment and suggeston, I have never done it the way you suggest, really iteresting idea, although the cut may be a little tricky. Thanks

Hi Mark, i have a question. When you built your Speedy Bee you fitted some shock absorbers to that model. I am building a lazy Bee and would like to fit shocks to that , but I can’t find any details of them and there loads of different ones out there. Could you possibly give me some details of what you used and where you brought them from. Thanks Mike..
