I Just want to say thanks for all your advice. For nearly 7 years I struggled to keep a lawn but thanks to your vids I learnt is was my soil. Or rather the lack of it. New build and my soil was full of rubbish tools hardwear etc etc. But now it's great... Well was until I did this very thing yesterday lol.

Thanks for the inspiration and the top advice!

Thank you Shaun for another excellent video. Ive got alot of tools you've recommended and everything is going so much better than years before. I'd love the aerator you have, thinking of starting a go fund me page😅😅😅, seriously in March/ April I'm going to go for a hire option as I don't think the scarifier/ aerator I own isn't doing enough for my lawn. Got my husband involved as well, trying to convert him to being more interested in lawns, I'd say it's starting to work with him as he loves his stripes😂😂😂😂😂😂

Fantastic video. I did a full renovation on my lawn this year it had never looked so good I was so happy. Over the last month it has started to thin out and go patchy. A gardener I spoke to thinks it holds too much water and that could be the problem. Is it too late to aerate the lawn and add sharp sand in the hole or should I hope for the best and do it later April?
@LawnRightСағат бұрын
Hi sounds right.. Def not too late and aeration thankfully can be done at many times

Scarified, seeded and top dressed a few weeks ago but couldn’t bring myself to aerate as it’s backbreaking work. Is there a domestic mechanical hollow tine aerator available on the market? Great video again 👍🏻

I'm in Suffolk I hired both machines from my local tool hire for the day for £100 3 weeks ago. Lawn recovering nicely
@LawnRightКүн бұрын
Not that I'm aware of, but does need making. You can hire or get an independent company in to do a one off and they clear it all up too.. I believe the larger franchises may attempt to tie you in to a contract or ask for a minimum of 6 treatments but it's worth asking f there's no independent companies near you
@RobinKeck-i2bКүн бұрын
Great video! I love them. Can I ask whether very regular mowing(every 2-3 days) makes scarification needed less often? I’m thinking that the mowing would stop the build up of decomposing garden material.
@LawnRightКүн бұрын
Hi.. I'm not 100% sure, might be my early Sunday morning Brain 🤔🤔 but I don't think it'll change things too much a sits more about the grass type. Mowing more will thicken it up too, and this actually then means scarifying and/or regular verticutting is advised.
@betterlawns4uКүн бұрын
Shaun. My may recall I'm thinking of adding a hollow tine aerator to my arsenal next year. It's a big investment so I want to ask as many questions about them first to make sure the investment is right for me and my business. Can you tell me once the aerator has done it's thing how long does it take for all the holes it's made to close over so the lawn no longer has a million little holes in it? Or do you lightly fill the holes with a quality compost?

We can't get a gas scarifier like your Stihl in the US, just electric and they don't last longer than 20 minutes. With my lawn, a lot of waiting between charges. The Classon gas dethatcher we have is way too aggressive.
@LawnRightКүн бұрын
Hi 👋👋😊😊. So the dethatcher is the same as a scarifier. You should be able to adjust the height settings. Look for one with lots of height adjustments or even a knob you turn.

Your videos are good to watch. I learn a lot. Question, do any of your customers struggling with having their flower beds dug up by either squirrels, foxes or badgers? I'm having to tend to mine every single day which is very time consuming and I need to know what I can do if they have
@LawnRight10 сағат бұрын
Hi I'm not sure with customers, but we do get squirrels in our own garden. They taken sunflower heads and made holes in the grass. I've seen customers putting plastic spikes in the borders.. Like a piece of rectangular plastic with several spikes on it around plants.. I found an article online which may also help www.google.com/amp/s/www.express.co.uk/life-style/garden/1759643/squirrels-plants-tulips-coffee-grounds/amp

Hi slightly different subject but, have you had any experience using adblue as a fertiliser, it's supposed to be very high in nitrogen, I do realise it's a bit expensive at the shops , but I have access to a unlimited supply for free, I would dilute it down a lot 100ml per 25 gallons for a test , any opinions would be grateful n taken on board
@LawnRightСағат бұрын
Honestly Ive never used it but have heard about it. All I can say is see how it goes. I'm not sure if there's anything else added that may be detrimental to the lawn that's all that's holding me back though from exploring it more

Is the air / soil getting a bit too cool for overseeding after this process now?
@LawnRightКүн бұрын
Typically I've gone to mid October. This allows for 6 weeks after for germination and recovery. Obviously if weather patterns differ from the norm, you'd have to decide accordingly
@JH-vw3mrКүн бұрын
Thank you, I use the a1 fertiliser and seed too, really like it. Looking at the forecast the temperature is dropping to lows of 6 in the next week or so, I might have missed my chance!

What is your opinion about fleecing a lawn when overseeding? To speed up germanation or "hold soil temperature"?

@@LawnRight I ussualy remove as soon as i see tips of new lawn sticking out of soil; as i read if you have it up to long it can cause fungus infection due to all of the moisture its holding. And ofcourse you dont want to have it to big, so that you dont rip out newly seeded grass, when you remove fleece.
@eygloaradottir4044Күн бұрын
autumn fertiliser vs ? spring/summer fertilizer? The difference is what? N content?
@LawnRightКүн бұрын
His yes the nitrogen is far lower in autumn, as nitrogen produces fast upright growth.. the other numbers increase in autumn as they promote stronger roots, grass health etc

When would be the last time of year to scarify, in Sweden we have somewhat colder temps and quite alot of rain, but I would really want to do it before winter again. We are around 10 degrees during the day and some mornings we have actually had frost already

HI.. so for over 20 years Ive strictly scarified first, cleared up the mess, then aerated, then cleared up the cores.. for the cleanest possible result that is my opinion the very best way to do it.. but it is also a little long winded.. Over the last few years Ive seen others doing aeration first, and I resisted for a while but then tried it... and it works just fine. It may make things a little muckier when done, but not enough to warrant doing it the other way. There may be a point or a lawn where id prefer to scarify first, but thats not come up just yet, although it might so Im being open minded

Hi honestly no reason at all.. the canon is stay in the shed at the far end of the garden currently behind some other tools and the classen was more readily available.. This lawn was easy access with no steps or narrow gates so I could choose any. I do think also the classen is faster, and so I chose that.
