I used to work at a thrift store and my wardrobe grew so much. You find great things cleaning up 😂. But PLEASE be nice to the employees - don't just drop things and leave them, don't leave a mess in the fitting room, just know we're doing the best we can and we're never treated very well so my biggest thrift tip is be considerate of the people who have to clean up after you
@katiehess17526 жыл бұрын
That's great that you were allowed to buy things! At the stores near me employees aren't allowed to (I guess because they'll take all the good stuff?? Idk).

The "don't judge a thrift store by its cover" is so true! Honestly, I've found some of the best stuff languishing in tiny little forgotten thrift shops. And don't be afraid of small, dinky Goodwills in little towns! People assume you aren't going to find anything worthwhile in BFE, but often you find really great stuff there because these people HAVE to shop online or go out of town to find the good stuff. Also, thrift stores in college towns are AMAZING for practically brand new, trendy stuff and barely used home decor(you'd be amazed at what people donate just so they don't have to cart it home).

Aine Walsh It’s similar where I’m from in my city in Australia. We have a lot of smaller ones rather than a few big ones, so going thrifting can really be a full day mission because you really need to go to more than 1 store and they’re not really close to each other, so you can literally drive all around town just trying to find something

I thriftall the time, and I think my favorite tip is to ask the people who work at the stores about a discounted price if the item is damaged. I have gotten so many things for half price because they were missing a button or had a stain and those things are easy to fix! You never know what kinds of deals you can get just by asking :)
@solo_incrept_to_infect6 жыл бұрын
Sarah Kilham yes! I went thrifting the other day and I pointed out a stain on a shirt and the lady just put it in my bag for free. I wasn't sure I could get the stain out, but I did and it looks good as new!

oh, Sarah, you are so beautiful, I can't even. I've been thrifting my whole life and I've been living in Russia before I moved to the US. our thrift stores there were so small and had a very limited amount of things - so you would basically purchase any decent item that you find or leave empty-handed. when I moved here thrift stores seemed like a freaking Disneyland - so huge, so many great things, and I couldn't help myself but buy waaay to many things I didn't even need. and I've learnt how to deal with this over some time but the old habit still slips through sometimes. and I imagine some people get overwhelmed like this as well and purchase more than they would want. one thing I found that helps me to thrift less is to imagine the next time I sit down and film my thrift haul and think if I'm actually planning to show this item to other people. and if I don't feel like showing it, then why is that? it may be just a staple piece that is just kind of boring to show, and then it's not a big deal. but what if I don't like it as much as I thought? and I don't think you necessarily have to have a youtube channel to use this technique. and it's not about other people liking what you get. I don't know if this makes sense but it definitely helped me a lot haha

I think my biggest tip is to check out thrift stores with special promotions or customer events too :) the thrift store near me has a customer appreciation event the last three days of every month where you spin a wheel and can get 10-75% off your purchase which is awesome and on a regular basis they also have stamp cards where you get a stamp after spending $10 and then once you hit $200 you get $20 :) I bought a bunch of Christmas gifts there and then got to treat myself and it was great! I’d also recommend people give themselves enough time to thrift I think often we get in a rush and I love taking my time to thrift and maybe revisit aisles so I don’t miss something.
@Mikaylarasmussen6 жыл бұрын
A thrift tip: if you’re pressed for time just choose one or two sections to go through that day! For example dresses or jeans. That way you are not overwhelming yourself, but you can also take the time you need to thoroughly look at those items.

There is a church in the town where I live. Twice a month you can go there and get free clothes that people have donated I have found few things there. I just found out about it not that long ago and now I donate all my clothes I don't want their because they don't sell them and someone can get them for free and I feel a lot better than donating them to a thrift store where people have to pay a price for them. I have just recently donated two big garbage bags full of clothes I didn't want to that church

Yeah, dude, for sure. I'm all about the men's section, the lingerie section, and the homewares section. Not too into the women's section. I'll also hit up the kids' toys because I have a very like colorful kiddie theme going on in my house. My maintenance man came to fix my air conditioner a while back and he was like, "Your house looks like it's decorated for a child's birthday party year round" and I was like, "That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me!!!"

My tip would be if you have time and you have a specific color you wear the most of alot. Go to the kids section mostly check the boys shirts. Some sorters sort band t-shirts into the kids section because they think it's a kids shirt. Or they end up in the kids section because someone hung them in the wrong section

I have a "superstition" that whenever I go thrifting, if I grab a cart or basket right off the bat, I'm going to have an unsuccessful thrifting experience. I don't even think that a lot of this is lazy, it's just SMART. I mean, who the heck has time to look at every single item in a thrift store?? And looking for colors and textures you like also makes sense--I mean, obviously I'm not going to wear a color I hate! And for me, texture is really important (I hate a lot of synthetics), so even if I love the style/cut of an item, if I hate the fabric, I'm not gonna buy it.

I USED TO GO CONSTANTLY TO A RESTAURANT THAT WAS LITERALLY FULL OF 99% PEOPLE OVER THE AGE OF 60 SO I UNDERSTAND THIS FEELING! Honestly, just do it anyway if you like it. Just focus on the clothes and stuff because honestly nobody is focused on you and nobody cares if you're a teen or way younger than most other shoppers! c:

I live in Austin and everyone and their mom owns a super hip vintage shop here, so the entire city is so picked over. About ten years ago, I used to go to the Goodwill outlet where u buy clothes by the pound, but then everyone caught on to that and now I'm having to battle with painfully hip vintage shop owners for the good shit, most of whom I trained when they worked for me at Buffalo Exchange🙄
