thrift shopping in america looks so amazing and huge, charity shopping in the uk is so bloody grimey and the chances you find anything good are so slim
@rvsalka7 жыл бұрын
Vicki Fletch highkey agree that thrift shopping in America looks great but to cheer you up a bit, I'm Polish and majority of the best(!) second hand shops here are like items that the uk shops rejected so lmao. can still find some nice things but it's a struggle sometimes.
@sofiarodriguez67687 жыл бұрын
depends on where in america. for example i live in a town where all the thrift shops are filled with grimey and lame stuff but a couple towns over its like a gold mine. i have to drive almost an hour to get anything. she lives in a state where people buy and drop buy and drop and in other states its not like that at all. god bless xx
@ccap32117 жыл бұрын
Vicki Fletch yep she’s in California. Thrifting in America is not always this good. Depends on the city. If it’s a bigger city that has a lot of nice clothing stores then the thrift stores usually have a lot of clothes from those brands and stores. If it’s a city that doesn’t have a ton of cool places to shop then the thrifting typically isn’t that good either.

Cali goodwills are expensive. Where I live they have set prices for the type of item and number of days they have had the item. Everything is color coded. Clothing is never more than $10, same as shoes.
@samesparza59317 жыл бұрын
agirlofplainreasoning I live in Cali too but surprisingly the thrift stores here in my town aren’t that expensive actually. Of course depending on the brand and what not, but most items in the thrift stores are below $20. Idk what’s up the prices at the stores Sarah goes to
@hannahtucker46947 жыл бұрын
agirlofplainreasoning yeah, I just got a Columbia shirt for 3.99 at Goodwill the other day Edit: also, the goodwills I've been to are all very small.

With high prices at a thrift store, you might as well shop clearance at regular chain stores!
@ethereal_astronaut3 жыл бұрын
bro i watch these so confused! i live in indiana and it’s way more here. shirts are usually around $8 and long sleeves are $12-20. jeans are always over $8, usually a lot more. idk why the prices at mine are so high but it’s rare to find something under $6. i dont shop brand names either
@solo_incrept_to_infect7 жыл бұрын
I can't believe how expensive your thrift stores are! at my goodwills everything is a specific prices no matter what brand. like all shoes are 4.99, all skirts are 3.99, etc. and they have certain colour tags 50% off. t shirts are like 2.99. I personally always skip the men's section and pants/jeans section. and I do a quick glance at sleeveless tops. I focus all my energy on finding tennis skirts and collared shirts and children's jackets and sweaters. and pantyhose lol. and shoes , socks, and purses. your summer boots were a good deal, tho! one thing I hate about goodwill is they remove the items with the sale colours while they are on sale and they re-tag them with a different colour. but I always get in there before they can switch them out. bit it's not fair for everyone else. I pretty much only buy if it's 50% off even if the prices are pretty decent full price. I'm spoiled tho, my church thrift stores don't charge over 1$ for anything and even as low as a quarter for stuff. and I have a lot of them in my area.

I work at a thrift store for the Salvation Army, which is a nonprofit that has a food pantry location and community assistance program that does a lot for people in my area. Anyways, just wanted to point out to all of the thrifters in the comments that shopping at these types of stores does amazing things for your community. Also, I know it ranges from store to store, but the one i work at does all shoes for 25 cents, 2 dollars for tops and 3 dollars for bottoms... much cheaper than our local GoodWill. we raise money for a cause and it feels really good to shop at SA because I know that my money isnt going to a greedy money hungry corporation.

Loved seeing your thrifting process and totally agree that sometimes when I go thrifting I find a bunch of cool stuff but sometimes I don’t find anything or only a few things and as I’ve gotten older I’ve really gotten pickier because I want items I can picture for wearing more than just a few months or a year I want a more lasting piece that can transition as I do as I grow up. Can’t wait for the thrifting tips video too!

People from Depop/KZbin are making thrift stores prices expensive 😐
@tuxxedomask7 жыл бұрын
I think the general popularity, not specifically KZbin and Depop are the cause of the price rises. Vintage stores buying up stock to sell, resellers buying up stock, thrift stores have also started pricing their items for their value rather than dirt cheap which is good if they're charitable but there has also been a rise in for profit thrift stores. It's a bigger issue than simply 'KZbinrs and depop making things expensive'
@nerdmaid12403 жыл бұрын
I think it's the rise in thrifting that makes it expensive. People are coming round to the idea that it's a more sustainable way to shop, and more people are donating quality clothes so the shops are able to be more selective about what they put out. I buy for myself, but I also pick up things that I know won't fit me but that I can sell on to someone else on depop. In my area not many people thrift yet, and certainly not anyone with current fashions in mind, so these are things that would go straight to the rag bin - in the uk unsold items generally get sold by weight to be recycled into rags, and I understand that in the US they go to landfill. I rarely make profit on the things I sell. By the time I factor in that I've taken time to buy it, driven it home, washed it, steamed it, packaged it and mailed it, plus depop's cut, I'm not exactly making millions, especially as depop buyers will always want to hammer down the price as much as possible. But someone else can use it when it wouldn't have been bought otherwise. Also, the expensive places to thrift are often in cities and tourist spots in my experience. It might be worth trying a small town if you can. They don't get picked over by vintage dealers, and there are more pensioners and less younger buyers.

I thought thrift stores were to help people who are too poor to get anything brand new. The price being hiked up on the most practical items seems like a problem with our culture. Though I know not everything needs to be so damn serious all the time it just seems kind of weird to me. If I owned a thrift store I'd have all shoes and such priced the same. Then if you want the cool stuff you're just going to have to come early rather than just being unable to afford it, but I don't own a thrift store lmao
@fawnx65007 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Shopping nonprofit thrift stores is so much better. They attempt to price things with the less fortunate in mind, and the money goes to a good cause when they do happen to mark things up.

And even tho u have limited places when u can thrift i dont have any 😪 i think in my country r one thrifted store with a few stores in some places but it so damn expensive like brand new cloth so its ridiculos. And the others thrift stores are like small ones and there is only a street in the city where u can find them all. Idk if i can explain myself but so sorry about my poor english. But the important thing that i wanna say is please continue with this videos. I dont care if u go, every time to the same store. It would be awesome anyway 💜😽
