Just anecdotally here, but I sealed the pinhole leaks in my 1981 Honda CM400C gas tank using Caswells (my first-ever attempt using a tank sealer, just patiently followed the instructions - although I did screw up my reserve fuel "tank" by not covering the opening/tube - that was a bear to fix afterwards) It is now about 7 years later with absolutely no issues in the tank - lining looks just the same as the day I put it in, tbh - and I'm extremely glad I did it. And I'm currently awaiting delivery for my next can of Caswells (in Dragon's Blood Red this time) to do my 2001 Ducati 748 tank now, which has no leaks but is very prone to rust and not in great shape. If my experience is similar the second time around, I expect it to be a slow & patient job with total confidence in years of professional-quality protection.

I have done three tanks with this stuff now. It is excellent. I did a Harley FXDL tank two years ago, which was full of rust. It still looks great inside after two years. It is all in the prep though, and allowing loads of time between each process. Ŷou cannot rush it. Great video

I'm so glad you started with explaining what you planned to do with the petcock installation. Had me scratching my head before I saw this
@CycleFab4 жыл бұрын
You'll sill have to use a round file or small sanding drum after it cures but it's not that difficult. Just make sure your petcock fits properly before you install the tank. If you have any questions just ask.

Thanks! trying to figure out what to seal my tank with. It has some old sealer on it that was there when I got it 25 years ago. I have it all down at the moment and Im going to paint the tank....but Im looking in there and the old liner looks sketchy in spots. No idea what it is, its off white in color. I always had some seepage at the petcock and always thought it had been the valve itself, but I think it may be the sheet metal there at the outlet threads. We'll see!

What did you use to keep the two small fuel transfer fittings on the front underside open? The sealer will seal them shut. The Harley tank I have the hose fittings are curved not straight like yours.
@CycleFab Жыл бұрын
Being curved makes it tough. I used modeling clay and then a drill afterwards to clean out the holes on mine.

Question,,,how did it adhere too plastic tub,,,I need to repair plastic tiller tank...hot iron isn’t sufficient repair..old troybilt tiller plastic tank ,,thanks great video

Epoxy will bond with plastics some what, but not as well as with porous or etched materials. Personally, I would do it if I could get the plastic tank absolutly clean. And if it were cost effective, i.e. cost of new tank vs. cost of Caswell Sealer. Your best bet would be to contact the manufacturer at www.caswellplating.com.

I bought a 20 gallon for car but I don't think its enough could I buy another 20 gallon and mix all together?

Yes, if you have doubts about the coverage.

Just bought the 10 gallon container for my '79 GS1000 tank. I removed most of the rust I could, but there seems to be some little flakes left over. Do you know if a small amount of rust in the tank prior to sealing is going to be bad?
@CycleFab3 жыл бұрын
I would suggest you watch my tank cleaning video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2nVfJpni5WGhLM It would be best to get all of the old rust out.

Do you think this will cover a tank that is rusted on the inside? Can't find another tank anywhere for my bike.

You need to watch my video on "HOW TO REMOVE RUST FROM A MOTORCYCLE GAS TANK" kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGinq4aYd8qSq9k And NEVER! try to seal a tank with rust in it. Always clean the rust out first.

Great video congratulations, I would ask you how many liters your tank holds and how much epoxy resin you needed for complete protection. Greetings from Slovenia-Europe.
@CycleFab3 жыл бұрын
My tank holds 13.25 liters and I used the Caswell's order chart for the size kit that I needed to complet the job. If I remember right, I used the kit for large motorcycle tanks. It's better to have too much than not enough. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the quality video. We've been sending our tanks to GTL but now as the years go on and rusty fuel tanks are more and more common I've been thinking about liner options for bikes not worth putting a $800 liner in. Not to mention the 3 month wait time. I haven't bothered trying tank liners after seeing the aftermath of what Red-Kote and the others can do after a few years but the local guys swear by Caswell seeing as it's basically just epoxy. Seems like it would be hard to screw that up. Do you just use acetone to clean out the tank beforehand or do you have any other go-to's?
@CycleFab4 жыл бұрын
Acetone is what Red-Kote told me to use on their product but I'm also a big fan of laquer thinner. BTW, about the only chemical that will degrade epoxy is Methylene Chloride so check your fuel additives, if you use any. I've never had a problem but I have found in my research that this chemical may show up even though it's been taken off the retail market. Just a suggestion.

Doesn’t work with fuels containing small amounts of ethanol. I have two tanks to prove it.
@CycleFab Жыл бұрын
I haven't had an issue yet, but I have heard of liners degrading because of ethanol. I always use a fuel additive because of the horrible gas that we have now. Thanks for watching and commenting.
