Do you section when you style or not? Let me know if you try this and if it helps! Step by step guide is on my blog: genamarie.co/2024/04/how-to-section-curly-hair-when-styling-for-beginners/

I do section but think the way I sectioned added to the separation in an area at back of crown. Will try your suggestions for sectioning next wash to help resolve that
@jmatkinhawaii12815 ай бұрын
I am the worst at sectioning. I try to use the same sections that you do. Styling the bottom is great, but when I let down each of the following sections they always get mixed up with the hair I've already done and it's like I might as well have just left it all down in the first place😢
@dolphinmatcha77195 ай бұрын
That's where using alligator clips comes in handy. After styling a section, I use two alligator clips to keep the styled hair in place before moving on to the next section, ensuring that the hair doesn't overlap

Boy i second that. And i use aligator clips

Thank you! So glad I’m not alone. I just keep wondering why I can’t do it, and how the heck the unstyled hair doesn’t mix with the styled….😕

Wow Gena this video is so good. I didn’t realize I was sectioning my hair in a way that was causing my brush to snag the top clipped section. I thought that I should leave it looser so that I wouldn’t be crushing my curls that I had yet to style and so was sleeping that top section in as loose of a clip as I could and literally every time I would try to get close to the route to brush style. I would snack at top section and so I stopped vertically brushed dialing started, horizontally, brushed, biling from under knee, and it wasn’t giving the results that I liked because it was moving underneath my hair, but not on top of the hair and it was making all of my curls kind of joint together… it was a mess. I can’t wait until my next wash day so I can try all your tips out. Also I wanted to say that the way you explained exactly how to get a good section with the fingers *bravo! Chefs kiss!!!!!!!!! That is the most in depth it has ever been said and I really think it’s going to help a lot of people, especially mom’s like me. my daughter’s too young (6) currently but I have a playlist of how to teach her how to do her hair and this is going on it. The way you really broke down how to move your finger under the hair is something I’ve never thought about, I just do it because I have to have perfect sections that show the whole scalp and move every hair to make that perfect line. But I think I would have just said put you finger on your head and like draw a line…. Which especially for a kid who hasn’t done it before is just not enough info to get it right. So thank you! Times 2!

It's perfect for me, I'm just starting the second month of my wavy hair journey and the results I get from just simple raking & applying products upside down aren't yielding the results I want so I've been wanting to try brush styling. Your channel has been a great source for me as I learn all there is to learn about my newfound wavy hair (I thought menopause was just giving me frizzy hair after a lifetime of straight hair).

Heyy I have that hair brush ♡ my daughter does too. You slayed this! Easy to follow ♡ my only problem is I dont use heat at all. I need a routine for that. I shower at night. Apply my many products and I clip my hair on top of my head when I sleep.. not too comfortable but it works. My hair is perfect the next day.

You don't sleep with wet hair, do you? 😬 Only asking because I used to sleep with wet hair and was told it was really bad to do that. Guess it increases scalp infections and other issues. 🫣😖

@@nikkideee94 Gulity. I do. Partially at least. I shower a cpl hours before bed. My hair and scalp are perfectly healthy and I have been doing it for years. @@GenaMarie I do own a great blowdryer. I will check it out. I only tried once and it went horribly wrong. I was always scared of blowdryers because it would make me look like I stuck my finger in a light socket when I was little. Now its just I do not know how to properly do it and do not want any heat damage.
@nikkideee945 ай бұрын
@HonesTeaBeauTea hey girl, no judgments here. You do what works best for YOU. There's many tips and tricks that Gena shares with us, and I am forever grateful to have found her channel. I've learned many things from her. Unfortunately, diffusing and brush styling do not work for my hair, I've tried brush styling a few different times, and I'm left with flat hair on top and by the end of the day it's frizzy and messy. Diffusing makes my hair wicked frizzy. I don't understand it, but I get better results from air drying. As they say different strokes for different folks. If what you're doing is working for you, then by all means, continue doing it. 🤍

I have a lot of shorter hairs at the base of my neck too... Also, I get a lot of "D" knots.. where ONE hair strand gets a knot in it and increases the chance of tangles/breakage... My ends go super curly so it's hard to stop the little knots...I'm about a 3B

Love your videos. So frustrated regarding bounce curl brush. Have been wanting it for a very long time. Besides being sold out is more than half the cost of the brush to ship to Canada. Just don’t have that kind of money. I do have the denman and tangle teaser. I have very fine but a lot of loose curls. Not sure which is better? Hair gets pretty tangled.

I recommend the Tangle Teezer over the Denman because it's more gentle

How long does this gel styling routine take when you’re not doing a demo? Also, do you have an even curl pattern throughout your head or are there different patterns, some curlier than others? The back of my head is quite curly while the sections around my face are more wavy.
@GenaMarie5 ай бұрын
It takes me about 10-15 minutes to style and 10-15 to diffuse. My fastest routine that includes washing is about 35 minutes total. And yes I have many different curl patterns which is why sectioning helps me make them more even.

i'm suffering so much with stringy hair right in the middle of the length. i'm thinking it's because, for years, i've worn my hair in a bun for days on end with no breaks. will this eventually fix itself or do i have to cut my hair and start over?

I have a similar issue from the same thing. Use a satin/silk pillow case and bonnet. I just keep practicing and finding which products work in my hair. I'm on that journey now. Just this week, lol But my hair does look better already. I practiced diffusing 1st, then I practiced sectioning, and now I'm trying products. I did purchase 2 brushes (I already had the never used diffuser lol) I'm finding that the right product is super helpful and practice not to keep your hair up. And I swear on everything, rosemary tea HELPS! Drink a cup daily or at least 3 times a week. I had 2 inches of new growth within 6 weeks. I have damaged hair, mostly from over wetting my hair. I just did that weird section of hair with the new curl brush (my hair is very wispy there), and it actually looks amazing, shiny, and bouncy. I used the curl bounce brush with the ouidad ACC gel. I hope you find your perfect combo!
