Having an example of a walk-in shower versus a tub w/shower would be helpful, as many homes no longer have tubs. Good information though, Thanks!

This is very useful, thank you! I took my first shower today after having bunion surgery two weeks ago and it was more challenging than I’d anticipated! I like my dr. but they really have you a pair of crutches and a list of about three instructions and let you figure out the rest. Your videos are very valuable!

People need to get over the idea we have to SHOWER to be clean. Showers are relatively new: 4o yrs or so. People did what we now call sponge bathing, or if they were wealthy enough to afford a huge water bill, taking a bath a couple times a week and sponge bathe the rest of the time. Take the person with a foot problem. Why risk the shower at all??

2 weeks away from having knee replacement surgery, and showering (living alone) has me the most nervous. Your video(s) are so encouraging and helpful. Will have a friend/neighbor/caregiver available, but for most part, I'll be alone. With your videos, I now feel more confident. Thanks so much.

Thanks for the great videos. I'm a BK amputee and can't survive without my transfer bench. I had one that was a commode style which I loved, it made washing myself so much easier. It was padded and instead of plastic it was wood under the padding and the wood rotted and I had to throw it out.

My concern is small bathroom with little entry space to enter the tub or place the walker. The toilet is directly beside the tub.
@cynlamb20974 ай бұрын
I just had knee surgery. The toilet has the raised seat with handles, and it’s right next to the tub. That toilet handle helps me transfer to the edge of the bench. My walker stays a bit to the side in front of the toilet.

I am having a problem finding a transfer bench that meets my needs. I just moved and the tub has a height of 19 inches. The shower bench I have provides that clearance, but the in-tub legs don't get short enough and therefore the bench is not level. Do you have any suggestions?

Do shower chairs fit comfortably in the bottom of a standard bath tub ?
@trinaroe5132 Жыл бұрын
Could 2 standard shower seats work for transfer? There would be a gap, but if the concern is balance on one foot to step in could sitting outside the tub to get your feet in be an option? I’m thinking even having them perpendicular to each other rather than sliding across? Just a thought that came to me as I watched this in preparation for upcoming TKR.

Discovered your videos. I was wondering about drying off after showering when you have had rotary cuff surgery. Any suggestions?
@EquipMeOT Жыл бұрын
The safest option is to do it seated. I often have my clients put a towel on the toilet that is opened up to sit on and then dry your body. I have also found terry cloth robes draped over the body work well to get started then sit to finish drying with a smaller towel in the non-surgical hand.

how can you close the curtain around the tub to keep the water from off the floor?
@cynlamb20974 ай бұрын
My caregiver put towels at the base of the bathtub. The shower curtain goes on the outside of the bench. I tried hard to point the handheld shower away from the curtain. We were pleasantly surprised that there was very little water on the towels on the floor.

@@EquipMeOT What would you recommend for a small older apartment tub/shower with a glass door?
@EquipMeOT2 жыл бұрын
Depending on the transfer needs I would suggest a shower chair with a smaller base to fit within the shower space. If a bench setup is still needed for transfer you might be able to remove the glass doors and use a seat like this one: amzn.to/3DD3dy5

Do you have a make and model number for the transfer bench that just comes to the outer edge of the tub as shown at 3:52 in the video.

Can you use a bath mat in the shower when you use the transfer bench? It seems to me that might help with possible slippery tub floor.
@EquipMeOT2 жыл бұрын
You can as long as it doesn’t interfere with the stability of the feet. I have cut out spaces on the mat to make room for the feet and that can work pretty well.

How do you keep water from splashing out side of the tub hen using a transfer shower bench?

The sliding tub bench causes water to leak into the floor. If you use one where you set down and slide yourself over and you are older, feeble or have trouble with balance you can tear skin because you don’t have clothes on when you get into the shower. If you are clothed it’s not so much of a problem.

Thanks so much for the videos and explanations!! Have you ever experienced using a LTB with more of the old-style, more narrow based tubs? Would they work or would it probably just be on a case to case basis?
@EquipMeOT2 жыл бұрын
Older style tubs can be very tricky because they vary greatly on the size seat they can accommodate. Plus, there’s the consideration of the person using it (size, weight, balance or strength issues), so the short answer is yes, I have used some LTB’s with these showers but it’s always a case by case consideration.
