The video is helpful for what you can use to get in or out of the tub but you should show people how to stand up from the sitting position. Especially if you are not allowed to put weight on your knees after a Total Knee Replacement Surgery. I have had both my knee Replacement Surgeries 4 months apart. This would be helpful 🙂. A different video says that those tub side grab bars could crack a fiberglass tub if they are tightened too much or if someone grabs onto it to stop a fall. That video says not to use these grab bars on fiberglass tubs.

Looking at your video again, I wonder if you plan to consider producing another version that takes into account those bathtubs that don't have any kind of ledge at the wall. The tub you're in has three separate levels that someone can use, but I've never seen one like that.

A child's booster seat cushion will also work and they tend to be a little thicker because I think a cushion that's around 3" it won't help a lot if a person's knees are bad, you really have to be able to bend your legs good and bring them together to be able to push up on your feet so the thicker a cushion is the better it will be.

Try a plastic folding step stool that when not in use can be stored next to the tub. Just slide it under your bum and hoist yourself onto the top of the stool and push up using upper body strength and the side of the tub. You can get very fashionable grab bars that can be installed on the tile side of the tub.

I like the bath pad idea, presumably they come in different heights? Would be useful to have a price guide - items under £50, £50-100, and so on so people can see can try lower cost items and then maybe go up. I've found I only needed a smaller and lighter bath seat (with the right bath mat) is needed to help me come up from a lying down position to sitting up, then to sit on the seat, then a stool outside after rotating my body around to the floor. I have to do things slowly or I can easily become disoriented in where my body is. Especially after being in a very different physical, mental and emotional position and state for say 20 mins and with the warmth and humidity of the room. I imagine the latter factor (orientation and sensory issues) may affect many more people can the obvious group you'd think of when considering bath aids (older people and those with physical impairments). I am autistic, hence the need to take into account the changing sensory environment of getting in and out of a shower. People with learning disabilities may have similar challenges.

Thanks. I have found to flip over to bands and knees and then using the sides to help push myself up is the best way. There is less risk of falling backwards and I use my wrung out washcloth (no soap) as an extra slip prevention for outside of tub. That grab bar looks sturdier than k thought they were. I just had two grab bars installed at both ends of my tub to assist stepping out at the non drain end where I usually get out and one at faucet/drain end just outside the shower tile on both ends. The drain end bar is installed to assist post knee replacement. I already have arthritis in back and hands and neck. I am very nervous about how I will get my non bendy knee over the tub side to get in and being safe with less space while using a bath chair (temporarily). I have a knee surgery on right leg and enter with left leg to face the faucet so wondering how to get right leg over the side of the tub with limited space when using the chair and also how to get out safely when my leading leg will be painful and weaker. The side railing you show seems helpful and the end bars I have are vertical. Any ideas for safe entry and exit post op knee replacement over a tub side to a bath chair? Showering is hard for me so not a great option.

I have really bad knees I can't bend my legs together very good so I have quite a bit of trouble getting in and out of the bathtub but what I've come up with is the step stool idea, for me the back of my bathtub does not have a lot of edge but for being skinny like I am I'm able to get my butt on it a bit and then I lower myself onto a step stool and then from there I lower myself down onto a thick pillow but the lower I go down when I'm holding the sides of the bathtub it does make my shoulders a bit achy but I think instead of using the pillow I'm just going to buy a 2-step plastic step stool and maneuver my body down into the tub that way. Depending on how a person's shoulders are it can be a little uncomfortable when you're holding the sides of the tub and lowering yourself down in.

I love laying down in the hot water so the whole bathtub chair to sit on and bathe that way doesn't appeal to me because of liking laying down. I'm so not a shower person so it really takes being creative to come up with some ideas when you're by yourself to get yourself in and out of the bathtub. I've had a couple of slips where I've hurt myself a bit so what I do now and I think a lot of people should if they're by themselves is to unlock your door take your phone with you into the bathroom that way if something happens you can call and emergency people will be able to get in and help you.

This is exactly where I am at. The hot tub cushions are the best idea yet. @@KudukUngol The only other thing I can think of that I've come across is for her to be able to gradually stack some supportive blocks underneath her so that she's lifted up far enough to where she can use the grab bar comfortably. I haven't tried that yet, but if you have one of those things that go across the tub to hold soap and stuff, you might be able to put a pile of them on it that she can pull down. I totally understand where you're coming from I have medial arthritis in both my knees I can't squat all the way down just to give you an idea. My legs won't fully come together so getting in and out of the bathtub is awkward but what I've been doing is using a step stool putting my butt on the back edge of the tub against the wall then lowering myself onto the step stool and that I lower myself down onto a thick pillow and then when I'm on that I pull it out from under my butt so I can sit right on the bathtub and then for getting out I drain the water first then put the pillow under my butt and then push myself up onto the stool and then back up onto the edge of the tub but instead of the pillow I'm thinking of just buying a step stool with two steps like a toddler's step stool it's made of plastic so that way it wouldn't matter if it gets a bit of water on it in the tub and the step stools have grippy things on the steps which will probably help. I forgot to mention that I do get into the tub first and then add the water I don't get into the tub with the water already in the tub.

I just knew, early on, that you weren't actually going to follow through and show yourself using the grab bar to get out of the tub. Everyone loves to talk about what is good for someone else, but when it comes to actual doing, they stop short and don't complete the job. I appreciate the info on the cushion. I will suggest that. But I am suspicious of that screw-on assembly. Were you afraid that it wouldn't hold up? Then you shouldn't recommend it.

I have one, I don't trust all my weight ( and I'm only 9 stone ) on it. And where I have positioned it is where I can tell by knocking on the outside bath panel that there is a wooden support. And I put in a slim but strong extra pad Also, if you fall on the grass in your garden then the first thing you do to get up is to turn over onto your knees. You can't do this in a bath. So you have to push with your legs and pull with your arms. And then when your feet are underneath you, you spring up like a frog ( ha ha ). But the danger is that your heels slip while you are using them to push. The cushion idea may help, as if you are already partly lifted by it, then your heels will already be part way up the bath. I cannot find your cushion on the net. But a demonstration would help a lot
