How to Select in Blender 3D for Beginners
This Blender tutorial covers how to select objects and mesh in Blender. We will cover selection in both object mode and edit mode, beginning with the basics and working into some more advanced selection tools. I bet even if you've been using Blender for a while, you learn something about how to select in this beginner tutorial.
The basic selection tools are located in the toolbar of Blender. Most of the rest are found in the select menu at the top of the 3D viewport. But some are even found in other places. I'll also cover the Blender shortcuts to select for many of the options.

The keyboard shortcut for lasso is just repeatedly hitting W, which cycles between tweak, box and lasso select tools.

I just watched 20 Ways to select in Bender... still can't find "select subobject/contiguous/element." :p Where does blender hide "select this piece of mesh that is within this one object," when in 3dsMax you just select Element and there you go?
