the problem i faced retrofitting an old E Ingraham duplex Hathor tambour mantle clock was the way the hands were positioned as the nut method mounting it to the clock face did not work plus a thick wood quarter inch thick as i had to mount the chime movement to a sheet metal plate secured by the nut and drilled 4 holes in the plate corners and secured it to the case. as the hand shaft works as the hands don't contact the glass cover. but i could not use the second hand. thats what you have to face if you get a movement to retrofit any ingraham mantle clock as i done is replaced the worn out movement which is $600 to fix as this method is cost effective. for any antique mantle and wall clock

Thank you for the helpful video! Question: for a regular battery/quartz clock movement, are there different qualities? Good, better, best, or noisy, ticky, or silent? Where is a good source of quartz movements? Thank you!

how do you remove the mechanism from the back of the clock face? mine appears to be glued as it does not come away from the back of the clock despite the nut removed from the front. any help for me?

Does anyone know why the pendulum on my clock stop swinging? It will run from a minutes or couple days and stop. The connections are like new clean, it has a new battery. The clock works well but the pendulum just stop working. Are the magnets wearing out? There's nothing on it's path to stop the pendulum from swinging.

I have my grandfather's wind up chime clock. The wind up cannot be repaired anymore and I want to convert the clock into a chime battery operated clock. I sure hope I can do this.

All clocks can be repaired, it's just a matter of money. Please consider not ruining an antique by "upgrading" it to a battery movement. Mechanical clocks are just such marvels of engineering. Unless your clock has physical damage, typically a cleaning is all it will take. Perhaps a rebushing. Either way, it would be much better to keep it authentic. Imagine taking a 1965 Corvette and dropping in a motor from a Chevy Bolt.

@@timfischer Thank you for responding to my comment. I did purchase a battery conversion for my clock (it doesn't chime) because my husband seemed to be lost without this clock. We have had it for 45 years since my 95-year-old grandfather passed away and now my husband has passed away. I don't think the clock is particularly valuable but to me it is. I still have all the parts for the clock. My husband a few years ago took it to an elderly clock repairman...there aren't many around anymore, in fact, I think he may not be around either. This gentleman said it couldn't be repaired. We were sad about that because it had a lovely unique chime sound. I live in Canada so don't know how it can possibly be repaired. I totally agree with your comment about the 1965 Corvette.

@@mrgarner4796 So sorry for your loss :( . Did you happen to keep the old mechanism? If so, someday someone might break able to look it over. But if not, at least you have the clock working again to a degree, and you still have the memories and sentimental value attached to it.
@mrgarner47962 жыл бұрын
@@timfischer Thank you Tim. Yes, I still have the old mechanism. It is quite heavy actually. I also kept the key and pendulum. I keep hoping that someone would be able to restore it. I miss the sound of the chime. It really is a sentimental piece of happy memories. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. :)

the length of the shaft is simple enough to determine but the shaaft diameter seems to be in every case 5/16 however mine is 3/8 diameter the 5/16 just floats in the hole. Where can I get teh correct size diameter shaft
