I've always had hard time with motivation even when it comes to hobbies. I'm either 100% in and excited, won't take breaks because I'm so pumped OR everything feels like a task, I get bored quickly, attention cracks every other minute. Oh, and for what I'm learning, it's a lot of things. Primarily at work I'm trying to learn how to program in Spark. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any good resources yet. Outside of work, I'm trying to write and publish an e-book. I've made quite a bit of progress, but I've had to learn quite a bit as well!

This is exactly how I learn best, too! Have you ever read Deep Work, by Cal Newport? It covers how our phones and notifications are dramatically reducing our ability to concentrate and think deeply. Ironically, I "read" it in audiobook form and had to listen at 2.2x to concentrate on it! Anyway, I highly recommend it if anyone is looking for a solution to that problem. Great video!

Are you sure that you didn't go back to college and sneak in a computer science degree in? I watch your videos and mentally compare the information. that you give (self-taught) vs. the knowledge from an University. I have to say that you have been right on point. You have even given some of the same tips that I was given in a classroom setting, and some were word-for-word. I am kind of needing you to mess up on some of the advice that you are giving, because I am starting to feel like the $60,000 that I spent for my degree was wasted. Just kidding, you keep up the good work, and I will continue to feel like my tuition was a waste of money.

I'm learning JavaScript through online course. For me it's not motivation which is a challenge, its time management. While studying, I jot down important notes and practice examples along with the course videos. At the end of the day, I feel proud on myself for studying 3 hours a day but realize I have only completed 1 hour of video. This drags my energy down. I have started to use timer on each videos I watch. But other than that I don't know what else I can do :(

Great suggestion, I will ensure to make a video on it! :) the number one thing is to be patient and kind to yourself - remember it can take up to 3 months to reallly get familiar with a code base at work so dont expect yourself to know it all right away! :)
