I’ve had enough of the ignorance in this comment section. You are allowed to have your own opinion, BUT be respectful. For starters, I’m not telling anyone how much to taper THEIR pants. I’m only showing the steps to take if anyone wants to do their pants the way THEY want! This video is up to the PERSON to taper any way THEY want to. Secondly, just because someone wears fitted clothing does not make them “gay” or weird. Ya’ll act as if ppl can’t like different things. Quit being so narrow-minded and judgmental. If you have a hard time understanding that, then this channel may not be for you.

Hey, I just found this video. I hope you’re still reading comments . I just wanted to add my two cents. I’m a 71 year-old woman I’ve been sewing since I was 16, pretty much self-taught. I started out just like you. I was skinny as a rail as a teenager and I used to take in all my jeans. I did a terrible job, I didn’t do French seams like you’re doing on the outside, but at least I could get jeans to fit me. I continued to take a sewing machine with me to every apartment I ever lived in. I made the curtains pillow cushions you name it, bedding, pillowcases, etc. still doing hemming and some alterations only for myself today I’m still sewing. I’ve been making bum bags, sling bags , leather totes, berets, and whatever strikes my fancy . I’m very impressed by your skills and being self taught. I’m also noticing how many people have been inspired by you l, buying sewing machines and trying things on their own. That’s what we need to do for kids these days! I have often thought of starting inner city, sewing classes, maybe this year I’d the year I do it! Thank you’

For someone who is self taught I'm really impressed. Great job! I have 1 suggestion for you...always do a back stitch at the beginning and end of any sewing job. The back stitch is what's really going to lock it in so you don't have your seam coming out after a couple of washes. That's my 2 cents but I think you did a great job. Thanks for posting.

Designers forget about my size. My perfect size would be 38/28. 40/28 in some clothes. American eagle does well for me when my size is instock. I’m so gonna try this.

Chris Quiroz I would recommend a Brothers sewing machine. I wouldn’t buy one with a bunch of stitching patterns. Alll your really gonna use is a straight stitch and a zig zag stitch. I would actually invest in a really good iron. A nice flat surface area is key to a good stitch.

Very helpful tutorial video. Please do make more sewing tutorials. We have the same sewing machine and scissors as you do so this video is perfect for me to learn from. I started learning how sew by making lip reader face masks I'm now selling on eBay and my teenaged son asked if I can learn how to taper his jeans and other trousers when I found your video. Thanks so much for sharing. Update: I tapered a pair of sweat trousers based on your tutorial for my son and he was happy with the results. Thanks again for the tutorial. One thing I did before commiting the actual sewing was to use safety pins on the lines I drew so he could try the fit since I didn't want to mess around with my seam ripper tool if it was too tight.

Excellent work dude. One note for all those trying this out. Be sure the pants your using as a guide are inside out as well. This is to ensure you don't accidentally run permanent marker down the side on the pants you're not altering. Most will say this is a given. However, it's easy for one to make this simple mistake when they're so excited to try this out. Let's be honest.... we've all made silly mistakes big and small. Have fun saving your your straight, wide, or boot cut jeans/pants from the donation bin or back of the closet. Cheers from Seattle.

I love being able to tailor my old clothes and make them fresh again! Maybe I did not scroll down far enough or all the negative comments were deleted? The only ignorant comments I see are amazement about seeing a man sew. Most comments are overwhelmingly positive. Why? Because it is an awesome feeling to be your own tailor. You know your body best, and from the looks of it...this video is an outstanding example of this! But some people on here acting like they never heard of or seen a man sew before, lol! A man invented the dang sewing machine! How is a man sewing in any way gay? Some of the best tailors I've used are men, and this dude decides to take on the task himself so he can bespoke his own gear. Please...stop being amazed a man can sew. Be grateful that this man took the time to share his accomplishment with you, and be amazed when you are able to do it for yourself too.

Glad I discovered this video. Thanks for sharing. Awesome tutorial! I've been wanting to learn to sew and start doing alterations - maybe even make some stuff from scratch, and this is a great video. I just went through an ordeal getting some jeans altered/tapered - lots of $ for a terrible job. Won't be doing that again.

This is awesome. Really cool seeing a guy teach other guys how to alter their clothes despite the clearly ignorant idea that it’s somehow “feminine” to want to wear clothes that fit you. Curious as to how they think their grandparents made their family hand-me downs fit them when the time came to look professional. I feel like this will be very helpful as it’s always difficult to find clothes that fit my legs correctly.

id also suggest this to be done with jeans that are stretchy, makes it so you can make them pretty snug and not worry about them feeling too tight. doing this with something like a levi denim would make getting your feet in the bottom kinda hard without adding a zipper. you can also make a zipper pant tutorial lol. LOTS of people want those .
