I’ve had enough of the ignorance in this comment section. You are allowed to have your own opinion, BUT be respectful. For starters, I’m not telling anyone how much to taper THEIR pants. I’m only showing the steps to take if anyone wants to do their pants the way THEY want! This video is up to the PERSON to taper any way THEY want to. Secondly, just because someone wears fitted clothing does not make them “gay” or weird. Ya’ll act as if ppl can’t like different things. Quit being so narrow-minded and judgmental. If you have a hard time understanding that, then this channel may not be for you.

For someone who is self taught I'm really impressed. Great job! I have 1 suggestion for you...always do a back stitch at the beginning and end of any sewing job. I started learning how sew by making lip reader face masks I'm now selling on eBay and my teenaged son asked if I can learn how to taper his jeans and other trousers when I found your video. Thanks so much for sharing. Update: I tapered a pair of sweat trousers based on your tutorial for my son and he was happy with the results. Thanks again for the tutorial. One thing I did before commiting the actual sewing was to use safety pins on the lines I drew so he could try the fit since I didn't want to mess around with my seam ripper tool if it was too tight.

Excellent work dude. One note for all those trying this out. Be sure the pants your using as a guide are inside out as well. This is to ensure you don't accidentally run permanent marker down the side on the pants you're not altering. Most will say this is a given. However, it's easy for one to make this simple mistake when they're so excited to try this out. Let's be honest.... we've all made silly mistakes big and small. Have fun saving your your straight, wide, or boot cut jeans/pants from the donation bin or back of the closet. Cheers from Seattle.

The only ignorant comments I see are amazement about seeing a man sew. Most comments are overwhelmingly positive. Why? Because it is an awesome feeling to be your own tailor. You know your body best, and from the looks of it...this video is an outstanding example of this! But some people on here acting like they never heard of or seen a man sew before, lol! A man invented the dang sewing machine! How is a man sewing in any way gay? Some of the best tailors I've used are men, and this dude decides to take on the task himself so he can bespoke his own gear. Please...stop being amazed a man can sew. I'm curious why you chose to alter the outseam instead of the inseam? Considering you had to "redo" that pocket area, I would think altering the inseam side instead would allow you to avoid that issue. Your thoughts on that? Thanks. Great video presentation. 👍🏻

I've always wanted to tailor my jeans because it's hard finding jeans that fit just like I like. You came up on my recommended, & I'm glad you did. Seems easy enough to do. I will definitely have to try this out! Thanks for the awesome video!

Love the taper. I’ve started tapering my scrubs to save me from buying a new scrub wardrobe. At 4’11 and shaped like a pear I’ve always taken in the waist and hemmed but now I can taper…YeeHaw! I hope my pants turn out as nice as yours. Tysm for this no Bullshit video.. I watched the whole thing w/o speeding it up or skipping parts :)

@fernank0175 жыл бұрын
idk if you've said this in your video, but make sure that you wash your pants 2-3 times BEFORE you start the taper process. Your pants will shrink in the washer. If you're doing this with selvedge/raw denim and you need to "wear them out" for like a year before washing, then you should allow for 1/2 to 1 inch of extra room from your taper process; or you'd have to wait until you can wash it first. I would not recommend doing this on raw and selvedge denim until after the washing process. Secondly, don't use a sharpie (for professional reasons - like if you're doing this for someone else), you should use chalk. If you don't have chalk use some dried out bar soap! Thirdly, use a jean needle and jean-specific thread with your sowing machine (or your machine will cry and you'll probably break/miss-align your needle). And finally, make sure that you back-stitch when you start and end so your stitch doesn't come undone in the wash. To add to this, if you cut off the excess fabric, you NEED to finish it with a serger/overlocker OR you should do a flat-felled seam (there are youtube videos on this). Sergers are for massproduced clothes, and flat-felled seams are (usually) for bespoke/higher quality clothes.

Quick question though, if you cut the outside like that wont people looking closely be able to tell it looks a little weird? Wouldn't a better strategy be to cut just outside the marker line and then fold the edges inward and THEN sew a line? that way it looks neater? The before and after looked great though! Huge improvement keep up the videos.

Good job!! If you’re really into the alterations try a serger! It will change your whole game

Great tutorial. Very easily explained. I've watched some other tapering vids and they outlined and cut the inseam. have you tried this, and if so is the outer seam just your preference......Also, I'm 40. with a closet full of great fashionable jeans but I need to taper them in. Im getting that sewing machine now.

This is awesome. Really cool seeing a guy teach other guys how to alter their clothes despite the clearly ignorant idea that it’s somehow “feminine” to want to wear clothes that fit you. Curious as to how they think their grandparents made their family hand-me downs fit them when the time came to look professional. I feel like this will be very helpful as it’s always difficult to find clothes that fit my legs correctly.

Would it look/feel any different if you tape them from the crotch to the ankle instead of tapping them from the outside of the leg? I'm new at this.
