I really want to be open for commissions cause I want to help my mom with financial problems..And from where I stand now, I am proud of my art. I love the people that follows me and shows appreciation to my art. So I'm planning to do commissions with the goal of helping my mom. Sneakey Kayle GG everytime I feel like i’m running out of clients I take a break of actively advertising commissions and focus on getting new followers! I’d recommend drawing lots of fanart of popular characters, using lots of hashtags on social media and doing raffles :) it is possible that your new followers will be interested in commissioning you in the future, so perhaps you should attract new people first!

Everytime I open raffles, DTIYS, commissions, people don’t join. They only like and leave. I’ve tried to get people to engage with my art, but I feel like they only engage with me so I’ll engage with them back. Here is my question. I am thinking about starting up a commison type of thing. And here is how I plan on doing it, I get a PayPal account, I get a social media (for me I want to use twitter) post the art on twitter so people can see what I draw, and then there be times where I'd sell the art but not like...publish out there? Like for them to download or something or an adoptable oc? For the art I make depends on the time of hours is the cost, like if for 1 hour 10$, 6 hours 65$ and over 24 hours 200 or 100$. If requested, size of canvas is price. Small=50$ medium=100$ large=160$. I put the link of the PayPal in the tweet with the art. They put their money in and I edit the pick saying it's sold. But I don't like...sell it to them personally like amazon or something? It's just like a little garage sale kind of thing. I wanted to know if that was acceptable?

Absolutely, if your skill is enough or not ... that your client will decide. As long as you provide clear examples of what your art looks like, if someone decides to buy from you it’s because they think your skill is enough :)

You can use basic apps like cashapp or venmo to receive payment. Also you can post your art on deviant art and more.

bangitani SORRY for taking so long omg. So I usually do that on social media (instagram, twitter, deviantart) where I post my art. I just advertise my comms are open and showcase my prices like I show on the video, and clients contact me via dm. I usually get payment via paypal but there are many apps for that like venmo for example. Paypal is the most common tho :)

Karosei _ hi bb !! So I don’t print it out, I just send it to them on full resolution and usually add a transparent version in case they want to use it as page decor or something. My only advice is to make it clear on your commission sheet or terms of service (like “delivered digitally only” or something) so as to avoid confusion :)

Manny 360 i usually upload it to a place where the client can download the illustration in HD. Usually google drive! I create a folder with the full piece and a no-background version and send my client the link :)

Absolutely. Making merch out of it would change the commission from a personal commission (personal use only) to a commercial commission. You can charge a percentage over every single sale (for example, if they sell a print for 10USD, you can charge 10% and get 1USD from every sale) or just charge a fee and let the commissioner sell it. I prefer the fee option because to me it's simpler. Just make sure you have everything perfectly clear between you and them, like what type of merch they're allowed to sell, including your signature, etc etc. There's no set price that you're allowed to charge, just talk to your commission about their budget and try to work it out in a way that suits both of you!

@@lottikun5926 if you're scared of them dropping, you can ask them what their budget is first, and try to work from there! I also really depends on how much they're gonna charge per t-shirt. I'll give you an example from when I did a commercial commission. The price for a fullbody piece is 35USD, and my client said their budget was 100-150USD so I charged 100USD for them to sell 5USD prints off my commission. They'll be selling something that *you* made, you can't be scared to charge fair prices!

I have advice from client perspective: write few words of explenation what do you mean by commision. Recently I had to buy some art for game that I'm making. And I can't figure out is "commision" is what I'm looking for or not. And everybody is just saying "Commision: X$". Google doesn't help me with understanding what word "Commison" mean. If somebody would have on they page sentence of explenation what is "commision" then there is high chance that I wyoud buy from that person. I go thru so many profiles of artis that I like, that I forgot about most of them. Just becase nobody is saing what I will get for my money. Is commision a form of donation or am I geting something in return ? Is that art execlusive for me ? Do I decide what kind of character will be drawn ? Will artist publish this art in their gallery ? Can I use this art in my project ? Can I use this art in commercial project ? I kind of get it now, but I still haven't 100% figurate out what "commision" is.

That’s an interesting point of view! I think most artists (including myself) think that we don’t need to explain what commissions are and clients will just magically know. That’s really something to think about! I would translate commission as “a personalized work of art made on demand by a client”, and then we would have many kinds of commissions. Like personal vs commercial (if the commission will be used for a profit - like merchandise - it will be more expensive) and drawing styles (chibi, bust, fullbody). But yes I do think every artist should take some time to make it clear for a client what they should expect when buying a commission!

I think interaction and “loyalty” is more important than numbers. You should stay aware of how often your followers engage with your work (like, comment, message) rather than how many followers you have! When I used deviantart i was able to get a decent amount of commissions with a small following because we built a community with a lot of interaction!

i’ve been thinking about doing commissions, but have been worried and nervous on how they work this video helped me a lot! i have a question though, when sending your client the art, where do you send it through?

I usually upload it to google drive and share the link with them! Also if the client is on deviantArt I may also use DeviantArt’s Stash but since I get most of my commissions on twitter now, Google Drive is the most common way!

It’s ALWAYS important to add your signature. But since it’s someone that paid for the art, I add it discreetly in a corner of the drawing. It’s different from when I post it online with a big watermark to avoid getting my art stolen !! But sign your drawing always.

Idk how to receive the money and paypal isnt in my country and i think its 18+

I always do it via paypal but there are others like venmo, cashapp, etc!
