I have a question. What do you think about creating the instagram page and working on it before you start selling. I feel like the algorithm will be slower to send your stuff out if you aren't posting for sells yet, and your page is not really ready. Do you suggest starting the page right when you are ready to sell or should you start earlier and work on it for a little while to get the pics, highlights, profile good meanwhile you may be compromising the algorithm?

I can’t speak from experience but I think your logic makes perfect sense! Making it ahead of time absolutely couldn’t hurt! Having it all ready to go would be such a great idea :) getting your highlights, bio and profile pic and maybe an introductory post up before following anyone / posting your products would be my advice. You don’t want to post too much without an audience though so I wouldn’t make it tooo far in advance

Super helpful info, thank you! One question - you mentioned posting a pic of packaged orders before mailing them out and showed an example of you holding a bunch of envelopes...are you able to send out envelopes like that with tracking?

Glad it was helpful! When I used those envelopes I used Etsy tracking, I quickly realized etsys tracking is super unreliable so now I only use bubble & rigid mailers and use pirateship.com to print my shipping labels with tracking and insurance

If you start from scratch how do you get followers?

I started my business only a couple years out of highschool so I posted on my personal accounts about my business and had a lot of support from family and friends. Then word of mouth really helped me grow from there. Later on giveaways became a good way to get new eyes on my business & posting on a lot of different platforms- Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, KZbin. If you can’t seem to gain followers I’d recommend offering a $5 gift card to your business for anyone who shares your insta page on their page or refers a friend, something like that. That’s what’s worked for me & a lot of my friends do markets to gain followers and traction from their community

I will be making a video soon about more engagement on Instagram, but make sure you’re using hashtags and reels
