a small flaw in this plan: you can't name drop big names in an industry without having worked for them first and if you've worked for them already chances are pretty good that you don't need to name drop.

This small flaw is actually all what this video is wrong about.

LOL. Are you for real? Obviously you would have worked for the other big name business FIRST before you drop their name. Are you not smart enough to realize this was an example?? LMAO.

I really like that email example! My sales pitch are basically the same as the first web designer, im just trying to change that now. thank you!

Thanks Alicia - ya we have all been there but unfortunately that method has a very very low return on investment for the energy spent.

This is awesome advice but what if you're just starting? How do you sell when you don't have results from big competitors your prospect would know?

There's the $64,000.00 question. He's leveraging past success to garner more success. But if you are new, you might not have those successes yet.

What a great video! Yes, I've personally gotten a ton of value from this. I can list the principles of influence to you, but would have never applied it in such a natural-sounding way. Excited for the next videos. Hope you are doing well though, as you sound a little less energetic than usual.

So how to build trust without having a portfolio?
@michalstrnad76855 жыл бұрын
Simple. Get paid for results. If you come to a business saying "You won't have to pay me if this doesn't work." there is very little chance they will reject your offer. In the worst-case scenario, you will not get paid but you will at least have something to show other business owners.
@jamesp61205 жыл бұрын
Find a niche you want to work in long term, offer them a simple free website. Use that to sell the next paid project.

So I should create a few websites for free and track results. Then reach out to other businesses and build trust with my past results to charge a profitable rate ?
@FoxWebSchool5 жыл бұрын
Ya it is the best way I have seen that works consistently (based on 100s of people I have seen growing web design businesses).
@johnkenwiley58835 жыл бұрын
One question, Fox: The way I used to think of websites is like sales pitch for the customers/visitors of any business and now as a Web designer, our role is to build and improve that pitch more and more so that our client can have more customers. I convince my clients about this. But this is not the full story. Website acts as the second step in funnel, the first step is to drive more traffic to the website. This is from where more customers comes. This is why it's hard for me to digest the fact that website can help business without the first step of funnel. No traffic = no sales
@FoxWebSchool5 жыл бұрын
Ya correct. I like to think of three overall stages that need to connect well - the situation before people get on the site and to actually get them on the site - the website itself and how it helps to sell, create action, and get people ready to decide - the handoff between the website and the business, making sure we connect the online side with the actual business the best we can All three are needed to have the best results possible.
@johnkenwiley58835 жыл бұрын
@@FoxWebSchool So, as a Web designer, we work to ensure the last two things for businesses? What are some of the ways you answer your clients when they question you about what about #1st stage? How your service will help my clients to come over the website? Thanks a lot for your earlier reply.
@codeninja1005 жыл бұрын
I love this! Putting yourself in the perspective of the client, receiving email after email from web designers really opens your eyes. One question: I know designing a more efficient website is important, but how do we actually have that lead to more sales? How can we confidently say we can give the clients more leads? Do we also do SEO and marketing? And if so do we include the budget for that in the price for the site?
@AdoDzeko105 жыл бұрын
You drive more sales by taking the lead. Begining with the content. In general web designer asks for content and how many pages the client wants but he can't answer that, that is not his job.. You have to listen, understand the goal and the prescribe a solution and in your solution yes you can include digital marketing for example (as a monthly retainer). I even put a professional photoshoot in the package, that makes so much difference guys. For the price you will charge, try to estimate how much money you can make the company and the ask a small chunk of it. Hope it helps.

@FoxWebSchool4 жыл бұрын
Depends - a lot of the time no because you have valuable experience. It depends though on the niche and how much of a direct competitor they are. Usually you can decide using your gut - if it feels right or not. Also you can be open with them and see how they feel about it.
